Brooklyn Reception Venue

Hello I am a planning a wedding for 150 guests but am on a very tight budget. I am looking for a venue that allows outside catering and would accomodate the guests for a buffet style dinner with room for dancing. Does anyone know of any spaces?
I am looking to spend no more than $2000 on the venue itself, is this realistic?

thanks

Well the picnic house doesn't allow outside catering if that's what you want.  I don't know under 2000, for 150 people might be a stretch.  Maybe the Masonic Temple but you will need to spruce it up a bit.

Sounds like we are on the same page. There are lots of alternative places if you dig around -- maybe over $2,000, but more affordable than most of the venues listed on this site for sure.

Dumbo Lofts (3K for Saturday, 2400 for other days)
450 Union (I think 3400 -- I love the space, but the people who run it are a little flaky, and you can't have a Saturday daytime event there)
Dumbo Arts Center (don't have quote -- opted against since they have no AC)
    Brooklyn Lyceum
    The Old Stone House
Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture ($750/hr)

These prices don't include rentals, caterers, etc., but these places also won't rope you into using their exclusive vendors. It will be a little more work, but also more affordable. Good luck!

Union Temple Hall (17 Eastern Parkway) costs $2,000 for 100 guests and $9.00 per guest for any over a hundred. They are a progressive Jewish Temple that rents out their ballroom. It's located right across the street from the Grand Army Plaza and Brooklyn Museum so you can get some great pictures. The price covers 9 hours: 3 for set up, 5 for event, and 1 for cleanup.

In terms of the decor it looks somewhat old fashioned, but it is nice and you have a lot of freedom to decorate it how you want. Here's the link: http://www.uniontemple.org/community/community/
Best thing to do is to see it for yourself because the websites not that great. Also there is a parking garage nearby. I'm getting married there next year. Hope this helps.

@Mhinds8604 thanks for that info! I am really considering Addison Park in NJ b/c this place is freaking beautiful. I meet with them on tuesday so I will see what they can do about the food.

On topic - Prospect Park does allow outside caterers but there is an exclusive list for you too choose from - but the list is extensive. I believe the price ranges from $3000 to $4000 depending upon the time of the year.

    Good Luck!
