Engagement Photos

OK so I am totally clueless on these. What is the purpose of them? Do we send out a photo with the invitation or separatele? Or are these more for us to have?
Fiance's brother is doing photography for the wedding/reception and suggested he could take some engagement photos of us too if we want.
Theres a great spot downtown with a pretty mural on a side of a building, might be a nice backdrop.
So much to do, I'm getting a little overwhelmed!
Thanks!

Re: Engagement Photos

  • We're having e-pics done just for us (and I guess for our parents, they'd probably be pissed if they didn't get any lol) We're not sending them out for anything WR, we just want them. (and we're doing them REALLY close to the actual wedding date)

  • We did them so that we could put them on our engagement party invites. And they are all over the house:)
  • We're doing them so I can make a photo guest book using them, and also to get to know our wedding photographer!  (But mostly, because ours were a great price).

It's also a fun chance to dress up all cute and vintage in an outfit that's NOT a wedding dress!  Yippee!

Don't stress about it though.  If you cant afford it, or dont have the time, there's no real point to them anyway.

  • We are doing them so we have a nice picture to put on our "Save the Dates."  It made sense for us because we have a lot of family coming in from out of town, some of whom have never met FI or me (depending on the side of the family).  Also, it helps that the session is included with our wedding photos.
  • I don't think engagement pics are necessary, but if you want professional pics of the two of you, go for it!  You can have a lot of fun with different outfits & props -- maybe something cute for your Save the Dates?

We didn't do offical engagement pics, but ended up taking our own pictures for the Save-the-Dates, since my fiance is a a photographer and has access to a professional camera.  He set up the camera with a timer and we posed with fun props - vintage hats, guitars, etc.

  • aww fun! it got me thinking we dont have any really nice photos of us. oddly enough, FH is really into this idea, even tho he usually hates having his picture taken
and i do have alot of family from out of town coming who have not met him, so its a great idea to include them with invites or save the dates.
youre right, it would give me a chance to wear some of the cute vintagey outfits i have, or give me a reason to go shopping :D
plus we are doing the photos with large mats for people to sign instead of a guestbook at the wedding...
might have to wait til the weather is nicer though, its cold here in Ohio.
    thanks, ladies!

  • Im not doing them because I am shelling out a ton of money for everything else, and Chris and I already have way too many pics together. haha.  BUT, I really think they do look nice.  We are doing those really unusual save the dates from magnet street, so that takes care of that. :)
  • They are definitely just for fun and to have fabulous pictures done as a couple. I am doing mine in June in this cute little town here in Washington called Port Townsend. Our e-pics are included in our package, and are kind of a gift from our photographer because she is a family friend. We are planning on taking her out for lunch that day at the most amazing little cafe. I am going to have to start looking for an outfit to wear. :)

  • we did our e pics for the save the date cards we are sending out :)  they are also good for making  thank you gifts for the parents before the wedding, or wedding announcements.
