Honeymoon & pets

Hey everyone! My fiance and I have 2 dogs. Our first and oldest dog is 11 years old. his name is Caesar. FI has never left Caesar alone for more than one night. Our second dog is Zeus. Zeus is our newest foster (we are adopting this week.) Caesar is really slowing down and we dont want to leave him to go anywhere for fear of something happening while we are gone. We also dont want to leave Zeus because he is 9 years old and was already abandoned in our citys high kill shelter about 2 months ago and now has severe seperation anxiety to the point that he has learned how to open all of our doors even while they are locked and lets himself outside. (We have found a solution so he cant get out anymore) However, he is 145 lbs and I honestly dont trust anyone enough to be able to control him if something were to happen if he did get out and I dont trust anyone enough to be as diligent as I am in remembering to take all of the proper percautions everyday to make sure he cant get out.

So that being said, FI and I were talking about going on a honeymoon somewhere pretty local or even a few hours away as long as we can drive there and the dogs can come with us. We talked about renting a mountain house of course in the Poconos but I was wondering what other suggestions you guys may have. If you have personal suggestions of a house or a hotel that you stayed at or just general suggestions of an area that you think would be pet friendly and what kind of things we could do there, Im open to anything and everything. I am totally fine with a low key place or a place with lots of activities. I just want to actually go somewhere and have a little bit of a vacation.

Sorry this is so long. Thanks in advance!!

I doubt you will find a rental home that allows pets, but some hotels do. The very expensive ones do.

Just put them in a kennel for the week. They'll be fine.

Have you tried Googling a little bit? I know it sounds simple, but it just might work.

That's "dog friendly vacations." Other things you might try are: "dog friendly in Pennsylvania" or "dog friendly in New Jersey," if you want to stay local. Good luck!

I am just like you...I would never put my dog in a kennel or trust him with anyone random! Thank goodness I have my parents to watch my dog.  Anyways, I have used www.vrbo.com to find a vacation house that allows dogs.  It's a house rental site by the owner and next to each listing there is a symbol letting you know whether they allow dogs or not.  I've used this site to go to Hilton Head Island, SC  and a place in the Poconos on Lake Naomi, both with my dog.  It worked out perfectly!  Good luck :)

I know that most Homewood Suites allow dogs. Other than that, I'm no help.

My heart just breaks for Zeus and his seperation anxiety! My rescue used to chew her tail when I left home b/c she was so worried!

And they're the five best friends that anyone could have, the five best friends that anyone could have! Photobucket

LadyJ its stinks! I would never kennel them anyway but if I did kennel him, I know he would bust out of the kennels and probably hurt himself. I would much prefer having them with us anyway. :) He is the happiest dog and when I pulled him from the shelter I really thought he was going to pass within a few weeks thats how sick and bad he looked. I didnt want him to die in a shelter. Well, he made this amazing recovery and is the happiest silliest dog. I dont want him to think he is being abandoned again.

    Hey Girl,

I have stayed her and it is a nice place. Also pet friendly. My friends stayed there with 2 full grown young pitbulls. Very nice and quaint and right off major highway. i am not sure of all the activities around but i know it's about an hour east of the poconos.

Hope this helps and good luck

I am not sure of anywhere personally however i do know that Westin Brand Hotels are pet friendly as are the Kimpton Brand (they have a property in Philly as well as Baltimore and DC if you are looking local)  I am not sure of the weight limit for dogs at these properties but again something you can look into.
