Anyone doing the "first look"? Why or why not....

We are!!! :) No one in my family knows...not even guests....just our photographer and now you girls! My FI was completely against it because he is very superstitious, lol. He warmed up to the idea after our wedding coordinator (much older woman) and our photographer convinced him. Now, we are both looking forward to it and I'm secretly hoping he will tear up when he sees me...and I think he will :)

I'm just wondering where would we do our "first look" since our ceremony will take place in the Gables.

I am! Our ceremony starts at 7 pm and I was really worried about losing natural light for our pictures. That's when I started looking up first look pictures and ones like these http://thebridesguide.marthastewartweddings.com/2011/08/love-it-a-fantastic-first-look-option.html/wedding-photo-behind-door-first-look-before-ceremony Took my breath away. Personally I'm a bit of an anxiety queen and I'm looking forward to walking down the isle to my FI with empty chairs, I'll be able to have a real reaction and be able to calm my nerves :)
  • We're not, I'm very traditional and I definitely wanted the first time he saw me to be as I'm walking down the aisle on my Father's arm. Where are you having your ceremony? You can do first looks at the park near Matheson Hammocks or at that little park near Mircale Mile?

  • I'm not either. I am very traditional. Whenever a bride walks down the aisle and everyone is looking at her, I look at the groom. His face is priceless and I want my fiances face to look that way too. I even told my photographer to snap a picture of his "first look" as I walk down the aisle.

  • We are doing one!!

We're mainly doing it so we can catch the light before our 5pm ceremony for pictures. It was suggested by our photog.

Plus, I'm looking forward to a little alone time with FI before we start the festivities!

  • We talked about doing one and I thought that I had FI on board for it.  He recently changed his mind though which is fine with me.

  • We are doing one! We are having a traditional jewish wedding and will see each other before to sign the Ketubah. I love the first look photos.... so much emotion.

  • we did one and it was the BEST decision ever ... our ceremony didnt start until 5pm ... so we did our first look at 2pm ... that gave us 3 hours to take amazing photos ANYWHERE as well as get all the family portraits completed ...

we wanted a first look bc we are paying for a cocktail hour ... we might as well be able to enjoy it and spend time with our friends and family ... rather then rush to get pictures done within an hour

if you arent the "traditional" bride ... and you are debating the first look ... DO IT !!! trust me ... u wont regret it ...

and it also made the ceremony a little easier ... my husband cried when he first saw me .... he would have been worse if it was during the ceremony ... he hates being in front of people and being in the spot light ...

so his nerves were calmed a little more for the ceremony since he had already seen me

and not to mention ... FIRST LOOK pics are SOOOOOO much fun

Our church is located just a few blocks from Miracle Mile :) I was thinking of the little park close to the Mile but I don't know if our guests will take that route to get to the church. I wouldn't want them to see me, lol.

FI was all on board when he learned we could have some alone time with me before the ceremony starts. We waned to take some pics using the natural light and since our wedding is in November and in the afternoon....we have to take advantage of it.
  • We did and I don't regret it at ALL!!! I was a bit nervous the day before and wondering if I would regre it but.....
The pictures came out beautiful, we had no rush and full natural light, and best of all, we were both able to express our emotions and the photographer captured it beautifully. No one knew except my mom and my bridesmaids and that was my favorite part.

I fell in love with the idea since I saw the episode of The Office where Pam and Jim get married. They were so nervous that they went to Niagara Falls in full blown outfits and got married without anyone knowing. Then, they showed up at the church and acted like nothing had happened......sooooo romantic!

We didn't quite get married before the ceremony, but the first look was and still is my favorite part of that day, hands down.....

<div>we are doing this too along with the bekeden ceremony right after the signing...yay!!!</div>
  • glad we could help .... trust me it calms the nerves ... u get to spend that QT with him and have a moment of just PURE emotion between the 2 of u .... my photographer does the first look with only the 2 of us ... u can capture the true emotion and feelings of it ... rather the one of u being nervous or scared or tons of other emotions in front of everyone at the beginning of the ceremony

good luck!!! its a tough decision .... but we enjoyed our cocktail hour! lololol

  • awwww you're welcome!
I don't regret it at all, like I said, best part of the day.
One tip, make sure to spend at least 30min apart after the first look but before the ceremony starts, trust me, the nerves and excitement will come flooding back!

    Good luck!

I can't seem to be able to add pics, but here's our trailer....it's short and it shows out first look at the beginning.... :)    http://vimeo.com/40353984
