Gerbera Daisies on the Aisle Chairs...

I love the way this looks, but now I'm wondering how long the flowers will hold up tied like this, without any water. We'll be decorating early in the morning (before 9) and the ceremony isn't until 4... it would be pretty sad if the flowers were wilted when everyone got there.   Does anyone have any more information about how people do this so they don't wilt, or maybe how to hang a vase there as well? (something cheap!!!)

Thanks!

Re: Gerbera Daisies on the Aisle Chairs...

  • I think Gerberas are pretty hardy flowers and I think they'd be alright for 2 or 3 hours, but 7 hours is probably pushing it.  Maybe you can get those little plastic holders that come with roses from the florist?  Another concern is if it is really hot out they might wilt even with water.  If I were you I'd enlist a non-wedding party friend or relative to do them up for you.  It seems like an easy enough task, and I'm sure someone will be happy to help!  :)
  • Florists use little test tube type vases which are easy to disguise (and see through).

  • Gerberas also have a natural tendency to 'nod'...I would suggest you buy a few from your local grocery store or florist and do a test run to see how long they will stay looking the way you want them to.  Gerberas were the primary flower at my daughter's wedding, and were the only flower in all the girls' bouquets, and we did have to wrap several of them with florist wire to keep them looking nice, even after being in water all day.
  • Gerberas are my fave flower, and will be the main flower at my August wedding. Now I worked in 2 flower shops over 5 years, and with them being my fave I always messed around with them. They wont last long without water. Your best bet would be to buy water tubes from your florists(you might need to cut the top open more, its just a rubber cap with a hole in it). Also, you probably want to put clear tubes on them to keep the heads from flopping down.. Good luck!!!
  • Why not use articial gerber daisies?  Michael's keeps them in stock pretty much year round and they look beautiful and pretty real.
