Not Engaged Yet

Hi!! I'm new =)

Hi everyone!! I'm Jennifer.  I'm 22 and I'm a first year teacher (crazy, let me tell you).  I've been with my bf for two and a half years now and we've talked lots about our future.  He is a year younger in school but the same age as I am and he finishing up his senior year of college now.  We wanted to wait to get engaged until we both finished school and had jobs we were content with.  I figured since he will be graduating in May, things could happen whenver so I might as well start posting on/reading some of these!!

I just figured I would introduce myself so I'm not a stranger =)

I'm not usually one of the first-responders... but I read that you were a first year teacher and wanted to chime in, as I'm in my second year of teaching.  From my lurking, I know there are a bunch of other teachers on the board as well. I can testify that the first year of teaching is in fact crazy ;-)

    Anyways, welcome.

Hello and welcome.  Do you guys live together?  Do you want a long engagement or short?  What's your favorite t.v. show?  I never know what to say to "I'm new" posts but tell us more about yourself!

I would love to tell you guys more about me...I didn't know how much to share the first time!!

I teach kindergarten...so I have 22 five and six year olds running around me every day.  It is EXHAUSTING but I love it.  I was worried about teaching such young kids since I student taught in 2nd and K is NOTHING like that...but it is so much fun!

My bf and I do not live together yet since he is finishing up college.  He will be moving in with me this summer tho!!  We are very excited about the move =) I'm leaning more towards a short engagement (a year or less),  I know that as soon as I get to start planning, I'm going to want to ACTUALLY plan things and not hypothetical things that might not be available in two years.

My favorite color is a paler version of lime green....like celery green I guess?  I love bright colors.   I watch lots of random tv ever since college.  Grey's, Gossip Girl, ANTM, House, Modern Family, The Office...lots of things!!  DVR is the greatest invention ever.

I grew up on Long Island, NY and then went to college in NC and stayed down south.

I love music!  I play music when I teach and it relaxes me and the students.  Today I'll be playing Nora Jones to keep them calm during an observation with the principal (eek!).  I don't have a favorite band or artist, I just like what sounds good =)

Fun fact...I studied abroad in Morocco two summers ago.  I love new places, languages, and cultures.  I stayed with an amazing host family who spoke French and Arabic (and a tiny bit of English)  and had the summer of my life.  I also love photography!

Anyway, time to get ready for school.  Thanks for the warm welcome =)

I was just reminded of something else...I have a cat named Piper who just jumped on my keyboard and apparently wanted to say hi.  She is just over a year old and she thinks she is a dog =)  She is the prettiest tabby in the world and she turned my bf into a cat lover (a very hard feat, let me tell you)

    Happy Thursday!

Welcome! Kindergarten, WOW. My first year of college I went toward elementary teaching but realized that I dont have enough patience for little ones (especially 22 of them) It's a hard job and I commend you for it!

Wow, props to you for teaching Kindergarten! I teach 1st grade which doesn't sound much different to most people but I know how much harder K is than 1. At least by the time I get the 1st graders they know how to sit in a chair, how to raise their hand, what a letter is (well some of them do, I have 8 refugee students), etc. I also love to use music in my classroom but never thought to use Nora Jones! I use a lot of Dr. Jean. She's hilarious and the kids love her songs.

What's the job situation down in SC? Is your job safe for next year? The reason I ask is because I just found out that mine might not be. This economy needs to improve, fast!

Wow, you are the bravest person for teaching the youngen's. You must have the patience of a saint. Welcome, and what are your thoughts on Pandas?

PS- Kitty might have some Siamese in her, they act like dogs sometimes, and will usually talk quite a bit too.

22 kindergarteners sounds challenging to say the least.  I'm jealous you spent time in Morroco, I've always wanted to go there.

KD + BC...there is no such thing as job security anymore =) Gotta love the economy.  I have a full day assistant and there are half day assistants in grades 1-2....so I know those jobs will go before regular classroom jobs, so I'm not tooooo worried.

hetshup...my kitty talkes to me ALL the time!!! you might just be right.  I never knew that about siamese cats.  I got my Piper on craigslist when she was just a few weeks old (old enough to leave her mother) and the family took in the mom as a stray without knowing she was preggers....so they did not know what the father was like.  The other cats in her litter were all black...she is the only one with colors, and she is too pretty for her own good.  Also...my thoughts on pandas? I hope you just mean the animal and that 'pandas' are not something I have never heard of?  Pandas are actually my favorite animal so it is super odd that you asked that.  My dad works in the law firm right above FAO Schwarz in NYC and when I was three he got me a HUGE (like 3 ft) stuffed panda bear.  I slept with "Pammy the Panda" on my bed for YEARS =)

Wow... 22 kinders! I had a combo class of kinder and first grade so I know how hectic it can be. That's good that you're pretty sure your job's still safe. It's definitly helpful when you know that! I agree though, this economy needs to improve quickly! I definitely miss teaching!

Wow, I love to see some teachers on these boards!  I'm almost a veteran teacher though.  I'm in my 9th year (Ahhhh!).  Time flies!  I teach PreK right now, but have taught Junior High, Kindergarten, and 3rd grade. I have 25 children.  Nice to meet you all!

You're not adding them to the post you add them to your signature there's a link to update your signature on the left hand side of the page. You need to paste the html code for whatever you want in there.
