Save the Dates

When would you recommend sending out Save the Dates?  We are getting married on Aug 27th of 2011.   My fiance thinks it is cheesey to send a magnet, what about a postcard?

we did magnets, it keeps it in peoples minds that way. Magnetstreet.com has TONS of different options instead of the regular business-card-sized ones. Ours look like a photobooth strip.

I would suggest sending them out at the 1 year mark if you have a final guest list by then, if not, 9 months or around the new year. We sent ours on Jan. 2 for our Oct. wedding. Just make sure your guest list is final, you can't not send an invite to a person after you've already sent a save the date...

I found our Save the Dates on http://www.weddingpaperdivas.com/ .  We are getting married August 5, 2011 and I am sending them out by the end of the month.  I'm sending them out so early because we have already been told by people we know that they have been booking next summer's vacations already!  A lot of the people we are inviting go away in the summer and we want them to keep the date open!
Weddingpaperdivas was great to work with.  I ordered sample save the dates and with that I received a coupon of $20 off if you spend $50, as well as free shipping.  Their envelopes did come with 1 or 2 extra envelopes in the package.  I also ordered our thank you cards for engagement gifts, matching our save the dates.
    I highly recommend using WPDs!!

We are sending ours out one year in advance (we're getting married on a holiday weekend). I'm looking into sending magnet save the dates... I think they're the most pratical - a post card gets mixed in with mail/garbage.. A magnet can but stuck on the fridge right away!

I actually already have my STD and I am getting married October 14, 2011.  I got the magnets and gave them out at my engagement party as favors (figured I could save on postage and they are a cute gift).  Obviously, I like the magnet idea.  I've heard that you can send STD up to a year before the actual wedding (I am the fluke but whatever haha)  Attached is my STD.
