Would you buy a $1 lotto ticket that had a 99% chance of winning $1,000,000 but...

a 1% you would die? Dun Dun Dun!

Stole this from E when I was looking for Nancy's thread on dollar dances. Seemed like a thrilling question. Answer now.

  • I am a risk taker. I would say yes. I always like to believe that when there is a chance that something good will happen....it WILL happen.  Perhaps I just trust in people and in the good of mankind too much.
  • I wouldn't. I think a lot of people over estimate what $1 million could really get you. I'm 24 and that number would def. help me financially but it wouldn't be a life changer. I couldn't retire now so I wouldn't risk my life for it, no matter the chances. But then again I've always been very risk averse.

  • Absolutely not. I'm with Amanda.

I also don't ever gamble, don't ride roller coasters, etc., so this was easy for me to answer. :)

  • How painful would the death be?

    Either way... YES

  • HAHA I was going to post this earlier when I was stalking the E board.

Yes I would take the chance. Life is already risky enough just walking down the street or driving a car so why not chance the good as well :)

Nope. I am not necessarily against risk taking, but gambling with my life just wouldn't be worth it to me. I am not a gambler whatsoever - it just is not fun to me and I always feel the odds are against me. My life is worth way more than a million bucks :) haha and I would not be able to think of the gamble in any other way than only valuing my life worth a chance at $1,000,000

  • No I wouldn't.  I don't want to die, at least not anytime soon!  If the 1% chance of death meant I would not get married and have a family and watch my children grow up, then I wouldn't take the risk. . I gambled $20 once at a casino and I lost it so quickly that I decided I'll never gamble again.  LOL  Plus I've always said I'm bad luck when it comes to the lottery.

  • Nope. Just not worth that small chance of death.

  • Def yes. We all have to die sometime. Better to live the risk imo.

  • No! A 1% chance you will die doing anything is pretty huge. A LOT more than walking down the street. And I'm absolutely not a risk taker, so this was easy for me, as well.

  • Yes I would go for it lol
  • I do my fair share of tisk taking and gambling but I couldn't ever gamble my life. Like arunkumar said I have a life to live still! I guess personally I don't see $1M as a life changer seeing as how I'm only a quarter of the way through it.

  • It all depends how many others were in that 1% category...but me probably not...FI yes...I'm afraid of dying lol...I have a hard time with death in general let alone the death of myself...haha...
  • I wouldn't do it.  $1 million isn't worth the 1% chance in my opinion.  A million would be nice but it wouldn't be worth it to die.

  • Meagan - you have to answer it, too! Not fair to post and run! haha

  • After Uncle Sam gets ahold of my 1,000,000, it goes down to 500K. I would say NO.

But if it were 100,000.000. Then the answer would be yes. We take a chance of dying every time we drive a car.
