NWR - Is it too late for me??

Hey ladies, here I am again confused about my future. Most of you know I got laid off in April and I haven't found anything in my area yet (Marketing), so I went back to PF Changs as a waitress (used to work there a few years ago).
I considered changing careers, but I honestly didn't know what to do. Lately I've been interested in Nursing. I've been researching it a little bit and I think it's something I would like to do. I am 31 (even though I look 22 Wink) and I'm not sure if it's maybe too late for me to just change careers like that. I think I would do a 2 year course, and I would have to work at the same time. Any nurses out there?? What do you guys think?? Am I crazy? Please be honest... TIA

  • Not a nurse, but I say go for it. It is never too late to start following your dreams. Nothing is impossible. You can make it happen! Good luck! I'm rooting for you!

  • If it's possible, I would suggest doing a job shadow or volunteer shadowing of a nurse for a day or two. I suggested this to two different friends a few years apart while I was in college. The first one hated what she saw and realized she wasn't going to enjoy that field, the other one loved it and had a better idea of what to expect. With a decision that will take 2 yrs and a lot of hard work, the more info you have the better. You might go and shadow and know it's exactly what you want to do :)
    It's never too late!
  • I agree with PPs, research what you're looking into, see if you can do a job shadow. If you find something you enjoy and want to, go for it! More and more people are changing careers with today's economy, it will actually  put you in the majority!
  • I think the job shadowing is a great idea!!
Couldn`t agree more about following your dreams, and it`s never to late! Go for it :)

  • First off... I don't think it's too late to switch careers... I'll be 35 this year and I am thinking of switching as soon as this assignment I'm on is over (next August).  so definitely not too late for you!

I like the idea of possibly shadowing  or something like that to make sure you really like what you want to switch to :)

If you have the means and opportunity totally GO FOR IT!

  • I think that if it something that you are truly interested in, than GO FOR IT!!!  You are only 31 and have many, many years left of working so you mine as well do something that you want to be doing!!  2 years is not long at all!  That time will go by in a flash!

My friend at work always says, that if she ever loses her job that she is going back to school for nursing - and she is 46!  It's never too late :-)

Girl go for it!!  It is never too late...you are still young!  I always thought 30 was going to be "too old" for a lot of things but now that I am this age I feel this decade is going to be the best of my life career wise and relationship wise.  Looking young and feeling young gives you an advantage!  I am just now pushing the envelope in the career path I've started while in college and hoping to grow more, its not the same as changing fields, but it's still a huge step and a little scary!  My FI also, being 32 is finally taking a leap in his career also!...i'm telling you, 30 is the new 20 hahaha!!!!  Good luck!!

  • Awww thanks for the support! I'm going to find someone to shadow and do some more reasearch. I have to see if I can afford it, I might have to get some financial aid or something. I will keep you posted!

  • Yes, keep us posted :) Let us know how the shadow goes :)
  • Do it!! I am a few years younger than you and I am in the process of preparing for a nursing degree right now!! I decided to go back doing an Accelerated BSN program. I already have both my BA and Masters degrees and this was a complete (and unexpected...and rapid) change. I am currently finishing up some pre-reqs I needed to apply to one program.

PM me or send me a facebook message if you want to talk some more! I also know that Lora is volunterring I believe because she is considering as well!
