Address Etiquette Question

Okay etiquette experts...

Working on the wording for addresses on my wedding invites, and I'm not sure what the rule is for this situation:

My grandfather, John Carchio, Sr. has passed away, but his son, my uncle, John Carchio, Jr. will be attending the wedding. He also has a 13 year old son named John Carchio who will be attending. Does my uncle now become John Carchio, Sr. and the son John Jr.? Or is the son John Carchio, III?

Also, should I be addressing my grandmother's invite to Mrs. John Carchio, Sr. because she has kept his last name even though he passed away?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Uncle is still Jr. and his son is still III. The suffix doesnt change when someone passes away.

And yes, Grandma's invite should be addressed to Mrs. John Smith Sr. if she is not remarried.

Ps. please use fake names for internet security

  • I believe your grandma's invite should be addressed to Mrs. John Smith, senior.
