lower ceiling

My wedding place is going to be in a hotel, however, the ceiling isn't that high, and the lights they have are not so attractive. The wall is light brown. What would you suggest to lighten up the venue, if it's a 3-6pm cocktail reception.
I've only thought about having long candles, floating flowers & candles, what other decoration would make it more "open".

    Our DJ is providing us with uplighting...lights that go on the floor facing upward against the wall. So you can dim the actual lights and just have more of a perminter light going on.

    Kind of like this look...but I think we'll be doing white lights...no colors.

    What about white silky backdrop with strings of lights? ..is it gonna be too much?..

    I don't think so.  It would be a nice feature.  But the uplighting would be great in a room like that.  :)
