Assigned tables

We are having assigned table numbers at our reception. 8 people can fit to a table but we have one issue. We are trying to make tables of 8 but a lot of times we are left with 7 people to a table. We don't have single people attending our wedding. Has anyone else comecross this issue and if so what are you doing about it? Hopefully this makes sense.

Re: Assigned tables

  • If you are left with 7 then do you have 3 couples and then a single person? Are they families?

  • I can do 8 to 10 tables and I just left some 7 or 9... No biggie

  • I don't think this matters at all, in fact I think it's useful in some ways. Say two guests meet up during cocktail hour and decide they want to chat some more during dinner, there's an extra seat for them to sit with them for a bit! At least that's how I'm trying to look at extra seats...

  • we moved people around a lot until we had the least amounts of tables with only 7 (so if there was 3 and 3 we pair them with a couple), but we still have a few with 7 instead of 8. Not much you can do so I wouldnt worry, as someone said the extra seat can be a blessing if people dont want to sit next to someone they dont know or if someone else wants to come sit with people they do know to catch up for a bit or something.

<div>This- you can't really split couples up, so we just did the best we could.</div>

  • I have tables that can fit 8-12 people each, and I have all kinds of numbers - some with 8, some with 10, some 11, etc.  I don't think it's a big deal to not have exactly 8 at each table.  It's better to put people together who know each other than force a table of 8 with one odd person.  Plus, it's not like the venue is going to set an extra seat - at least that how mine works.  I told them this weekend how many settings will go on each table so that way it doens't look like someone is missing.  I think this is pretty standard protocol.

  • We're just leaving an empty seat and putting no place setting.

    No biggie!

  • We have tables that are ideal for 8, but can fit up to 10 (especially with kids).  I'd ask your venue if you were able to add more than 8 if you had to.  We have several tables of 9, usually because there are kids or a baby.  But we also have several tables of 6-7 people.  I don't think you are ever going to fit it exactly 8 at every single table.

  • we have tables with 8-10 and then there is a few that has 7, ours is mainly for dinner, but then after dinner people move around and sit with family and or friends for a little and just jump table to table. if your worried about having less tables for more room them that might be a different reason for your tables being full of 8 ppl
