Hypothetically Speaking

So, let's say that HYPOTHETICALLY you have to postpone your wedding.  You sent Save the Dates 8 months ago, and your wedding is in a little less than 2 months.

How would you let people know that the wedding as been postponed?  Verbage recommendation?

Re: Hypothetically Speaking

  • I would definitely start by if you have a website, posting it there and making it be on the home page. Then start calling immediate family and bridal party and have them spread the word. More extended family and less closer friends you should try to call but if nothing else shoot them an e-mail as well. Hope all is ok!!
  • This article has simple but good wording for a note to send in the mail: http://wedding.theknot.com/wedding-questions/wedding-planning-advice/qa/letting-guests-know-weve-postponed.aspx

I'd probably prioritize telling OOT people who might be thinking about booking travel over in-town family and friends. And figuring out the kind of "party line" I was going to use when people outright asked or hinted for info.

I might say that date didn't work with important family members. Or that for financial reasons, we needed to downsize the wedding and replan. Or just give people a stare and imply they were incredibly rude for prying. :)

Hypothetically speaking of course, I'd respect anyone who did this, for whatever reason they chose to do it.
  • This is a hard one my FI and I called our original wedding off 2 years ago. For us it was about 9 months out and we just told our families immediately and than moved on to telling close friends and they all just passed the word to the others for us. As for wording we kept it simple and straight forward. We felt the only people who really needed to know the situation was immediate family. So I would just keep it simple and straight forward.
