So is anyone putting their wedding announcement in a newspaper? Which ones? Which papers do you think have the best wedding sections?
I really love the wedding section of the Washington Post, my local paper, even though the section is quite small and new. Their stories are alwasy cute, and they select the most inspirational story to include in their feature story. For example, they once talked about the story of an Iraq veteran in a wheelchair who falls in love and marries his RN at Walter Reed, and they succeed despite all sorts of obstacles. You're left with this feeling, "Oh, wow, now that's love."
My parents want me to put an announcement in the New York Times, since everyone from my hometown reads the NYT, but I'm not as much of a fan. In my humble opinion, they place too much of an emphasis on degrees, prestigious jobs, and what your parents do career wise. And the heading stories don't really feature the most inspirational couple, but rather the rich and famous many times.
What do you think?

Other than that, I'm not so excited about the newspaper announcement idea. I don't really know that many people who read the newspaper anymore, and all the people I know live in far-flung places.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?

Sarah - I think you do! Good luck!
You girls have a point -- why does one have to announce a wedding to the world? I guess I want to do it because I enjoy reading them and want to give others in international relationships hope that everything will work out. It was really hard going through one, and I would have liked reading more stories like ours while I was going through it.
LOL.. j/k (kinda) Mother insisted on doing the engagement announcement so I'm sure that a wedding announcement will happen to. I'm kind "whatever" on the subject. I don't care, and it will make her happy.
I told her she can do a wedding announcement if she wants, but not an engagement announcement....it's been far too long and obviously everyone knows we're engaged.
[QUOTE]You're right. The New York Times is only interested in the rich and famous, and where the two people went to school and who they work for now. I think the local papers are a cute idea, but not if they charge $100.

This is soo not true.
For NYC brides, there is only ONE newspaper to have your wedding announcement and picture.
The "rag" papers, DailyNews and Post don't do them unless you are famous or a hoar.
When they vet the announcements, they lean in favor of the brides living in NYC,not outside of the city
