String Quartets

Anyone have any good recommendations for string quartets that won't charge $500 an hour? :) Send em my way!

Thanks!!!

Re: String Quartets

  • The reason quartets are generally a decent amount of money is because there are 4 people to split the money between. If you are looking for instrumental music, maybe check out a duet or a soloist.

I don't have specific names but local university music schools are great places to check out...ie. Eastern Michigan (okay I graduated from music school there, I'm a little biased), Wayne State, Oakland, etc. Students will usually work a little cheaper.

Troy High Orchestra has really good players in the Symphony orchestra that will play at weddings.  Just contact Mr McNair and he will round up a group who wants to do it.  When I was in orchestra it wasn't uncommon for us to get offers for playing at weddings for 120-150 bucks each.  Multiply that by 4 or 5 kids.
