Bridal salon headaches- and I haven't even been to one yet!

Hi all!

So, I've been trying to set up appointments to look for wedding dresses when my mom comes in town in the next few weeks.  I called one place that I really have been wanting to go to and she just scoffed at my budget ($3000- which still seems like an awful lot to me.)

I still want the bridal salon experience, as in, not the running of the brides at Filene's Basement, but with a little less attitude.  It just seems like all of the store in the city are more designer and may not even give me the time of day.  I don't have a car, so anything out of Chicago would be near impossible to get to.

Any suggestions or any of you with similar frustrations?  I thought this was supposed to be the fun part.

try wedding belles in  barrington and weddings 826. Both salons don't sell dresses over $3000. Most are samples, but custom dresses are available too.

I wish I could help - I went to the David's Bridal on Elston and they were very helpful.

I have had friends say good things about Weddings 826 on Armitage ave. And the bridal salon at Macy's on State street was great for my MOH's wedding dress.

3k is a hefty budget, in my opinion so people shouldn't be scoffing, and if they are you can take your business elsewhere.

I went to House of Brides in River North - my dress was $1200.  It's a great salon and they've been so nice to work with.

Wow, sorry you experienced that! I know that my dress budget was under $1000, so I didn't even go to some of the designer boutiques and the stores I did go to had plenty of nice dresses in my price range.  I don't know if this would work for you, but there a a few bridal shops (House of Brides, Davids) in Oak Lawn on 95th street right by the Metra station.

I've been to Weddings 826 in LP and they are so nice. I didn't look for a dress there but I went w/a friend.

Thank you all so much! I've heard a lot of really good things about Macy's and 826.  I think that I will direct my search that direction.  Their loss Tongue out

Macy's State Street is fantastic and very accommodating.  My budget wasn't much more than yours and they treated me very nicely.  In addition, they have lots of trunk shows with designer collections at a 10-20% discount.  I worked with Theresa over there and she put my whole look together!

I also recommend Weddings 826. They were very willing to work with my smaller-than-yours budget and had beautiful gowns.

Your budget seems plenty big to me.  Depending on what you want; I'd look at Jenny Yoo.  Most of her dresses are around or under $1000 but they're excellent quality.  They're plain (no beading, lace, etc)...but with your budget; you could pay an alterationist (they have several they recommend) to add detailing to your dress.
