St. Lucia Honeymooners

I am driving myself crazy on trip advisor... We are staying at Ladera for 4 days and Sandals La Toc for 5. We are looking for excursions, specifically ziplining, a sunset cruise, and just an overall tour of the island. Any recommendations of companies, other than going through the hotel directly?

We are at Sandals grande right now. For the best beach of the sandals come to the grande. While on the beach at the grande find Charlie ( he's one of the locals) and do his speed boat island tour. Its similar to what sandals offers but a much smaller group ( only 12 of us) and you get much more ( we went to two different places that the sandals tour and simon says tour did not). Plus, it's supporting a local not a big chain like sandals. I have pics in the link above my siggy pic ( Travel revies, st Lucia 2012, St Lucia day 5 is from our tour*review of tour and pics are clickable ) also, read the daily diary for that day it tells what we did on the tour. The tour is $220usd per couple. $100 deposit at time of booking and $120 due at time of tour.

I'm also interested in this. We'll be in St. Lucia in mid-July. We were going to do the day tour but if this one covers more with a smaller group, then I definitely want to look into it. Also, we're staying at LaToc, but plan on traveling to the Grande a few times so I'll be on the lookout for "Charlie."

  • Our friends just did that EXACT honeymoon for their October wedding this past year.  We had been to Sandals La Toc and loved it so they chatted with the travel agent we used and she recommended breaking the trip up between Ladera and La Toc.  They did La Toc first and then finished at Ladera.  I can send you a PM with her info if you are looking for help planning.
Our friends loved both places and thought they really saw all of the island doing it that way.  Hope that helps!

  • Tour with Charlie for those who are asking: Today started off early at 6am. We did a speed boat tour with Charlie. He is one of local vendors on the beach. We left our resort and started heading down the west coast of the island. We saw lots of resorts and fishing villages along the way. We went through a cave that is refered to as lovers canal , made a stop in Marigot Bay and stopped at the Pitons where our 2nd mate took our photo. We pulled in to soufrier where we hopped in a cab (mini van) to head to the mineral bath and mud bath. Once we arrived at the mineral baths we went into the one that is a waterfall. Our guide took each couples pic as they where standing under the falls. After our pic we hopped into the second mineral bath which is pretty much a natural hot tub. After the mineral baths we hopped back in the mini van and headed up to the mud baths. The mud baths were really hot and stinky but kind of a neat experience. After dousing myself in mud (hubby was a party pooper ) Garth ( our guide) took my pic and then I washed off if the showers ) the actual mud pool was way to hot, about 100 degrees. We our mud baths done we headed to Charlies aunts house for an authentic St. Lucian lunch. Once lunch was done we went snorkeling at Jalousie Plantation beach ( right between the Pitons ).Hubby said he saw some nice fish, I saw nothing. I guess you have to go all the way to the end of the rocks to see anything decent. The beach at Jalousie is very small and the side of the beach for the non guests of the resort is nothing but rock. After snorkeling it was time to head back to the resort. The ride back was a lot of fun as the winds were really kicking so the boat was bouncing around a lot. This was a half day tour so when we got back around 2pm we were tired. We chilled on the beach a bit then headed to our room to get ready for dinner.
  • Hope my review of the tour is at least semi helpful. I'll be updating it and making it a bit more detailed ( and fixing spelling and grammar mistakes) when we get home. I was going on only a few hrs. sleep when I typed it so it's not the best. I can honestly say though given the fact that the first time we were here ( 4 yrs ago ) we did the comparable tour through Sandals. This one is MUCH more fun, informative, personal ( the tour is only about12 people) and less " canned". Its still touristy and it's still not the same as going off on your own but it just didn't feel as "canned" as the Sandals tour.

What would this set us back in cost?  Im leaning towards this or driving the island myself.  Sucks paying "anything" when your forking out the extra for a butler room then not use him the whole day lol.

  • Charlie's tour was $220 per couple. Trust me, you don't want to drive the island yourself. We thought about it. That is, till we saw the roads. They are very twisty and mountainess with lots of hair pin turns, no guard rails, lots of pot holes( some roads were even washed out by the hurricane so there's only one lane) and the locals drive like nuts. Not to mention they drive on the opposite side of the road than we do. My dh used to do enduro car racing and he was iffy about it ( I said no). They also do not have rental cars at the resort so you'd have to take a taxi or a half hr walk into town and the same in the way back.
  • All I can say for St. Lucia I cannot think of anyone better to work with than Nancy from www.myislandgetaways.com we got so many extras, plus all our excursions were booked in advance and we had so many great tips from her that made our trip the best possible. we had everything pre booked and paid for which was perfect plus the suggestions were priceless.
  • hmm, ok, we drove some crazy stuff in Thailand and cuba, but def will consider the advice;)  My hubby loves these types of challages lol, me on the other hand.

Dh was iffy but if they had had a car rental place right here at the Grande he would have done it. Me though, no way! I'm fine with the locals driving even though it is a bit crazy but, that's only cause the live here and do it day in and day out.
  • I would highly recommend Cosol Tours! I had an absolutely AMAZING time seeing St. Lucia and enjoying the local food. Probably one of the best excursions I've had while on vacation, and not outrageously priced!
He's #3 on Tripadvisor, if you want to check that out :)
