Cake question

I'm getting married at a church ceremony in July, but my party isn't until August. Do I need to get two cakes?

    You need to host SOMETHING for your guests after your vows in July.  Doesn't necessarily have to be cake.....

    Sorry I left some info out. We are having a little party after the church, with a cake. I just didn't know if I have to or should have a second cake. The restaurant where we are having the reception is serving a regular dessert. Is it important that we cut a cake in from of the reception guests??

    Well the party you are having in August is not a reception, but just a celebration of your marriage.  You can have a cake but I wouldn't have an elaborate tiered cake or do a cake cutting.

    Honestly, I would just stick with what the restaurant provides and have a nice celebratory dinner with your family and friends.
