Catholic Ceremony

We have an appointment in a few weeks to meet with my priest.  If anyone has gone through the process of scheduling a Catholic wedding, please share your advice.  What does he ask you in the first meeting?  My FI and I have discussed the future for many years, so it's nothing new, but I'd like to prepare myself a little bit.  His secretary penciled in a date that is a little less than one year out.  I don't want to say it's my official date, but do you think it most likely is?  Please share any tips!

Thanks in advance!

In my experience the initial meeting is just to discuss the date and he will let you know what is required to ge married in a Catholic church. He will ask you to get your baptismal records to him ASAP.

We met with our priest but aren't getting married in a church (he's still a Catholic priest, there's this whole story) so he didn't ask for any baptism/confirmation certificates (FI is Jewish anyway, that would have been weird). He just asked us about how we met, what we thought about kids and faith and this and that. I brought a whole pad of paper because I didn't know what to expect, but I didn't write a single thing down, haha.

It will depend on what Parish/Priest you go to.
Our priest went over our background and why we wanted to get married in the church then asked some questions about how long we have know each other and what we like about each other. I have heard of some churches where you have to take a written test where you and your FI are seperated to make sure you are compatiable.

He will then go over what he needs in order to have you married in the church (baptisim/confirmation records) as well as the added classes (Pre Cana) and how much $$ everything will be.

This is the FOCCUS Inventory... my church has it automated on their computers.

For me, the initial meeting with our priest was just a getting to know you type of meeting.  He confirmed that he was available to officiate the wedding date we tentatively picked with the secretary, and then wrote down all of our information to have it put into the church's records.  His questions were pretty informal and only got personal when he asked if we lived together (we don't....).

My church requires all of our sacrament records at least 6 months prior to the wedding (baptism, communion, and confirmaiton records)

It really depends on the priest and parish. Our first meeting was long - it was a lot of official paperwork such as where we were baptized, confirmed, etc but then also he wanted to know how we met, what we thought about starting a family, etc.

Thanks for all the input!  I am involved in my church and it is important to me so I think I'll be fine with those questions.  Plus, like I said, FI and I have discussed our views on all the big things, so I think we're on the same page (or at least know where the other stands).  Now I just have to wait it out and hope I get the date I picked with the secretary... Cool
