Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

cocktail hour and introduction

I just thought of something.  We are doing a First Look so that we can enjoy the cocktail hour with our guests and mingle/thank everyone.  Is it weird to then have a grand entrance when we go inside for the reception where we are introduced as husband and wife?

I feel like a lot of the weddings i've been to, we never saw the bride and groom at cocktail hour, and the first time we saw them was at the reception.

Re: cocktail hour and introduction

  • You can do whatever you like.

We wanted to mingle during cocktail hour, we did a casual receiving line during cocktail hour where people came and said hi and we gave them their favour.  I didn't want to hide for an hour away from my guests.  Because of that and because I'm not a fan of the big "wedding party entrances" to the reception we just went in and sat when dinner started with no hooplah.  Once we sat the BM introduced the WP and my grandpa did a blessing and we ate.

You can do whatever you please.  If you still want a grand entrance then you could leave the cocktail hour 15 or 20 minutes before and get everyone seated and get the WP lined up, freshen up your makeup and take a pee etc.
  • I don't think it's odd--I've been to weddings that have done this, including my MOH's. She and her H mingled with guests during cocktail hour, then all of us in the WP gathered outside the door about 10 min. before dinner was to start. The DJ asked guests to take a seat and we were all introduced.
