Question about Etsy rules

Can a seller tell a buyer that if the buyer leaves neutral or negative feedback the seller will refuse to sell to the buyer in the future?

Obviously if you have negative feedback you wouldn't want to buy from them in the future, but I felt a little threatened by the statement. Like, "positive feedback or else..."

Re: Question about Etsy rules

  • I'd feel the same way, and probably wouldn't purchase from that seller.
  • I'd notify etsy of that. That's wrong.
  • That would make me think that they have had negative reviews in the past and wonder why. I would notify Etsy and not buy from them.

[QUOTE]That just sounds like they suck and are expecting negative reviews. I would buy from someone else.

    These are my thoughts.
I bought from someone (cards) and when I got them, they smelled so horribly of cigarette smoke I had to air them out and spray with perfume before I felt good about mailing them to family members.

I left a review with the concerns and the seller went off on me, and blamed their roommate for the cig smell.

A warning that you're talking about, reminds me of this particular seller that I bought from. My thoughts would be to stay away.

  • You can notify Etsy, but they will not care. That's just me being honest, and knowing a little about their business practices. It's actually pretty common, and people will go so far as to e-mail or message you after you've left negative or neutral feedback and hound you about why you did so. I just wouldn't buy from that seller, for the reasons PP said. There are so many sellers that sell almost identical things that you shouldn't have much trouble finding something very like what you want from someone else.

It's not that I don't like Etsy, I buy stuff from sellers for Christmas and birthdays a good bit, but they aren't the best about enforcement over stuff like that.

[QUOTE]Wow.  I wouldn't think that Etsy would endorse that sort of behavior.  Have you asked them?

I did not b/c I couln't find any sort of rules on their site, but thought maybe I wasn't looking in the right spot.

I don't think I will buy from the seller again, but that "threat" came after I had already made the purchase in the confimation email. I was really offended and it is the fist time I've ever bought on Etsy. I've seen a lot on there but have never had the guts to do it until now.

I'm glad to know that isn't the norm though. I'm sad to see that Etsy may not do anything about it though...
  • I'm just curious why you would want to buy again from a seller if you had a negative experience with them to begin with.
