Horrible Art at the CAC!

So I need some advice... I'm getting married on 7/10/2010 at the Contemporary Arts Center. Both the ceremony and reception are in the main lobby. They just unveiled the mural that will be up at the wedding and it's HORRIBLE. I don't know what to do... I really think it is going to ruin all of our decorations and the atmosphere in general. Any advice for me?

I'm sorry you're going through this!  Is that the artwork in the picture you posted?

I'm also getting married at the CAC and when you have your wedding there, you do run the risk of not liking the artwork they post during the timeframe of your big day.  My fiance and I were a little concerned about that (especially after we took a tour of the upstairs levels and saw some hideous art), but decided that we will go with the flow no matter what's on the walls that day.

Maybe talk to Mike at the CAC and see if there's anything you can hang in front of the walls?  I know it couldn't actually hang FROM the wall, but maybe there's a way to drape some fabric onto the light fixtures or somewhere else that would somewhat cover the art?

If not, then I'd say try to stay positive - people who attend the wedding will realize you didn't choose the artwork displayed in the museum and you will be so happy and caught up in the ceremony/reception and having fun with friends/family that it probably won't be a big deal on your wedding day.  HTH!

Will your event be held in the same room as the art? I've never been to the CAC or seen a wedding there, so I'm not familiar w/ the layout. But if it isn't then I wouldn't worry too much about it. It could make for some interesting conversation starters for the guests too??? Who knows? And some guests might actually like it?

Don't let this ruin your day ~ I'm sure most won't even notice.

PIPE AND DRAPE!!! Most any rental company in the city can coordinate this for you. You'll loose the contemporary concrete architecture but it will create a blank canvas for you to work with.  I was at a wedding at the Schuster Center in Dayton last spring where they used pipe and drape to create some privacy since the whole lobby area where the reception was had windows just like the CAC and the bride wasn't thrilled with the idea of onlookers peeping in on her wedding.  Talk to your facilities manager, my guess is he's coordinated this type of thing before :)  good luck!

ditto at the pipe and drap. Prime time rentals in dayton rents them pretty cheap. I am renting 3 from them for my venue

I would say pipe and drape also. I mean the exhibit you are speaking of has been the most popular exhibit since the CAC's new building opened. Maybe your guests will enjoy it since it seems that rest of Cincinnati has.
I suppose that is a risk you would encounter since the CAC is "contemprary art"
