Hotel Suggestions

Now that i found my venue, I need to find some hotels to that are reasonably priced around downtown for my guests to stay. Do any of you have any suggestions for hotels that had great customer service but was able to provide a great group rate? are there any hotels I should stay away from completly?

Our room block is at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk.  It's $99 a night, which was by far the least expensive I could get downtown.

The "Government Rate" for Texas hotels is $89, so most hotels are willing to give that rate out on a regular basis and may be willing to offer this if you ask for $89 specifically. I'm not sure if this will be true of downtown, but got the rate at the Hampton Inn at 10 & Huebner.

What dates? Our wedding is on the weekend of a convention so it was really hard to get a block of rooms (dec 11,2010)

Despite this, we got The Drury Inn & Suites for $199, with a King bed and a sofa bed in second room, full hot breakfast included and happy hour every day.

    St Anthonthy gave us $99/night

We also rented a really nice house in King William for $500 the entire weekend, sleeps 10 people.  People are staying there together and splitting cost of the rooms. We found it on www.homeaway.com

we got the $89 for April 15-17, which is smack in the middle of fiesta week, so I'm betting they do it year round.

thx for the homeaway.com suggestion! i will check it out.

I can give you the contact info for the house we rented on Homeway if you like. It's a 4 bedroom with doubles in each, one block from the trolley, in King William. Prices may be higher during firest but we got $500 for the entire weekend and we're doing our rehearsal dinner there so saved tons.

Holiday Inn Riverwalk is a great place to stay. They are all so friendly.
