To start- no, I am not asking how much each of you are spending on your weddings!

I know two other people currently planning a wedding. One is an old college friend who is planning on having 250 guests and the other is my SIL (I will never stop with the SIL stories, girls) who is planning on having 200 guests. My friend has a budget of $4,500 and my SIL has a budget (that she is already breaking) of $50,000. My SIL is literarlly breaking her bank and her parent's bank for her wedding, but my friend is spending a conservative amount for what she and her FI make.

Here are my curiousities:

How do you manage $4,500 for 250 guests in the Northeast? (I would love her secrets!)

Why is it necessary to spend every penny you have, plus more on a wedding? (ie the $50,000 budget)

Why do people feel the need to tell people how much they are spending on weddings?

It should be interesting to see both weddings and compare and contrast!

Why do people feel the need to tell people how much they are spending on weddings? I don't other than holy crap its way more expensive than I thought with a look on my face that is shocking

It should be interesting to see both weddings and compare and contrast! when I started watching Four Wedding I was doing that lol

Wow, $4500 for 250 guests? I really cannot fathom how that's possible especially in this area. Actually where I live I'm pretty sure it's not possible unless you're not feeding your guests or providing anything to drink. I also live in one of the most expensive areas in the country to get married (North Jersey). When I started planning our wedding I couldn't believe how much things cost here. $50,000 is a TON of money but I can see how it would be easy to spend where I live, especially for 200 guests.

I am tring to guage 4500 in the north east also and with 250 guests. GO HER.

Maybe because sI have been down the wedding road before (yes this is my 2nd wedding after a horrible first marriage) I dont understand the spending of 50 grand for a wedding. BUT if you have it and thats how you want it and it wont put you in debt for life (or your parents if theya re willing to dish it out) then I guess so be it.

I dont get the asking of your wedding budget by people who arent involved directly with the budget. Thats pretty rude if you ask me. Anyways.....

First let me say that 50,000 on a wedding makes my jaw drop. I think of 50,000 and my first thoughts are thats a nice down payment on a house...lol.

Your friend may be doing a lot of DIY and possibly alot of "second hand" wedding stuff. I have to say that I have about 200 and my budget is around the same as your friends. I have found a photographer well she is a photographer friend for very very cheap a dj friend for free, and some other friend hook ups all the way down to the cake. For the things I could not get hook ups for I plan on looking on recycledbride and other sites like it to get good deals. I plan on getting with fake flowers instead of real as well as that saves ALOT of money. My plan is to have enough left over to save for us to buy a house a year after we get married so I woul like a small down payment..Wish i had that 50,000 you SIL has..

H2love: I wish I had that $50,000 too! I don't actually know where it is coming from (not that it is my business anyway) because her FI went into credit card debt for her... wait for this... $30,000 e-ring! Gahhhhh I can't believe I'm spilling all these beans on the internet! LOL

Oh my that must be one amazing ring! Well my venue is pretty plain We are having our ceremony in a church and reception in a hall I have found 2 halls one I can bring my own food and liquor no fees for the kitchen use and I have a friend who will bartend. As far as food I am still working out the kinks but I think myself and friends will be doing the cooking as I love to cook. None of the plans are concrete yet so I am still holding my breath but I am hoping to have everything pulled together and contracted within the next 2 months. Even my friends who are doing things I have asked to still do a contract it just makes me breath easier well it will once it is done and signed. LOL

I am lucky to find friends and friends of friends who have connections. My sister had my parents help a little with her wedding but unfortunately they are not in a financial place to help me right now so we are on our own
