Wearing you e-ring?

I have no idea what to do about wearing my e-ring in mexico before the wedding. Its platinum so i had sent it out to get buffed/polished and cleaned and haven't worn it since (platinum marks like crazy!) and right now its in its box. I'm afraid wearing it in mexico I'll get it dirty (right now it looks so clean, almost like ice but super sparkly) with swiming or whatever.

Should i keep it in its box in the sae with our wedding rings? I hate the idea of leaving all our expensive jewelry in a safe, I have heard horror stories of people breaking into the rooms (not specifically at our resort) I mean it shoud be safe its a five star resort and all....

frustrating - I'll probably just wear it, but I'm still conserned leaving my wedding band and his wedding band in the room also.

Thoughts? what are you ladies doing with your rings when you get to your destination?

Re: Wearing you e-ring?

  • I'll be wearing mine. I bought a ring cleaner a while back that keeps it sparkling. Plan on bringing the cleaner with me and will clean it the morning of the wedding.
  • Thats tricky but I totally know what you mean.  You don't want to wear it because you want it to look perfect for pics on the wedding day!  I would think it would be safe in the resort safe.  I have never had any negative experiences with that, but maybe I am just too trusting.  I will probably leave mine in the safe because I don't want the salt water and sand to get on it before the wedding.

  • I never really thought about it not wearing it, but I know I'm having mine dipped and polished (it's white gold) the day before we leave.  I will wear it on the plane but if I go to the beach before the wedding I will probably just leave it in the safe.  I'm only at the resort for one full day before the wedding so I won't have much beach time before hand.  After the wedding, I will probably wear it...  the only time I won't would be when we go zip lining.

  • I will be wearing mine. My brother isn't coming to the resort until the day before the wedding so he's bringing the wedding bands then and we can keep them on us/with us overnight so we won't have to worry :)

  • I was worried about the same!  I usually don't bring ANY expensive jewelry on vacation so wasn't sure how safe those safe's were.  I was planning to wear my ering the whole time and was going to trust in the safe for our wedding bands...at least they will be insured!

  • hey thats a good idea! my sister isnt coming until the sunday (weddings on tuesday) so maybe I will leave all three rings for her to bring...now the question is do I trust her to remember them.... or else we would be there 5 days before the wedding with the rings in the safe.

    definitely something to consider!

I never had an issue with safes so I will leave mine in there if I go to the beach. I actually dont think we will have any time before the wedding though. I have a question about white gold....what does dipping do and how often do you do it. My other rings were yellow gold.

  • my 'promise ring' was white gold - dipping re-plates it in the rhodium bringing it to more of a white colour, they go yellow-y over time (plating wears away). basically it will make your ring look like new again. everyone is diffierent though, it depends on how acidic your skin is. Usually no more then once per year and I think it used to cost me $40.

Dipping was much quicker then having it polished/buffed - took three weeks to get it back!

  • I am curious about the dipping to?
Mine is white gold as well and the jeweler told me i should bring it in every 3 months for cleaning.  He is located 40 minutes away, so that is not going to happen that often!  But maybe 2x a year.  I did buy some cleaner from him that works pretty well to get it nice a sparkly again!

  • Hi Ladies,

I had my DW about 6 months ago in P.Cana.  My rings fit really well so I just wore them everywhere I went. My mom cleaned our rings right before the ceremony.
  • TrudM75 - the cleaner is to get dirt or what not off the ring and the stone. Having your ring dipped or plated is bringing the original white gold colour back to your ring since it fades over time going to a yellow colour. Most stores require you to leave it there for a day to a week. ask your jeweler if its just for a clening or dipping/re-plating

  • I know what you mean about the platinum. Mines platinum too. It looses that super sparkle once it gets wet after you get it cleaned. Plus all of the places to get it scratched, I'd say wait to wear it till the ceremony. That's what I'm planning on doing. I've never had any problems with hotel safes and I think they would be your best bet unless you really think your sister will bring them without any problems.
