modern/industrial baltimore city venues?

hi! we've been looking at locations for a late april 2012 ceremony and reception but haven't found what we're looking for- except the visionary arts museum which is way over our budget. was wondering if anyone here had any ideas...

we really want a modern styled site, preferably with a cleaner (or industrial look) that we can give an elegant feel to.
really want some kind of outdoor area, at least for some cigar smoking (outdoor ceremony would also be ok), also hoping to include our small dogs.

pretty heartbroken over the avam prices, because it's perfect for everything we want- especially for outdoor city pics!

thanks for any help!!

I went to a wedding last year at the Douglass - Myers Martime museum.  It's more modern that the AVAM, but it's right on the harbor in Fells Point.  I have no idea how much the rental fee is (actually, if you find out, can you let me know?), but it was definitely unique and modern with great views of the harbor.

Ooh I loved that site! I looked at it for our wedding (June '10) but ultimately decided it wasn't quite what we wanted. It definitely has a modern/industrial feel (exposed brick, wood beams, big windows). Unfortunately I don't have contact info anymore [:(]

Our reception was on the roof of the Science Center and it was AMAZING, if I do say so myself [;)] White tent so you could do whatever you want with it, outdoor area and great views. They also have a number of other spaces inside the building.

Have you looked into the Baltimore Mussum of Industry?   My friend had her wedding reception there and it was pretty awesome.

That's where we are getting married! The ceremony is outside at the point then the reception is inside! It is beautiful... on the water & awesome to see Baltimore at night since our ceremony starts at 6:30. I am so excited!

we are going to check out the Museum of Industry, the Science Center and the Frederick Douglass Maritime Museum (plus the Hippodrome, although it seems to be $$$) next week! very excited and hope one of them is the place. can't believe how stressed i am so early into the planning! haha.

oh, and kiwigreen- the fees for the Frederick Douglass Museum seem to start at $1k for just the pier to $8850 for the whole space- inside and out- for 3 hour minimums. most of the spaces are in the $1-3K range though. and, it doesn't look like they supply anything more than the space.

    thank you all!!

I'm also getting married at the BMI!  Our wedding date is 7-9-11.  They're renovating the entryway now, so it should be done by the time of your wedding.  We loved the wall of windows overlooking the harbor, and the fact that they let you use the movie room to show whatever you want during the reception.  If you go visit, check out the print shop.  They will make a mold for you that can say anything you want.  It could be a cute thing to use for your save the dates.
