Need Vegas halp. NAO.

OKAY. Tropicana in Las Vegas. Has anybody stayed there in the last year and, if so, was it good? How's the pool?

Re: Need Vegas halp. NAO.

  • My husband stayed there for his days-long bachelor party.  I could ask him!  And get back to you.

  • I haven't stayed in forever but my aunt & uncle who live in Vegas mentioned that it underwent a major remodel last year and it was really done well.

Nuggs!  I just stayed there last weekend with my best friend and it was really, surprisingly nice.  ("Surprisingly," because my friend stayed there a few years ago for her little sister's 21st and hated it.)  The remodel has made a world of difference.  The casino is light and airy -- something I would never usually say about a Vegas casino! -- and the room was comfortable, modern and clean.  I would absolutely stay there again, and I'm pretty picky about hotel accommodations.  I don't need five stars, but nothing creeps me out more than a hotel room that feels "used" (for lack of a better word).

Unfortunately, the pool was closed while we were there.  It looks like it was undergoing a remodel or at least some serious maintenance since the water had been drained from all of the pools except one.  We were disappointed.  Or, rather, my best friend was.  (She's been in Utah long enough to think 70 degrees is pool weather.)  From a distance, it looked nice though.

  • Ditto Girlie - Ben just said the renovations are really nice.  He says the location of it is at the end of the strip so there is lots of walking, but he didn't mind it.  He said the pool area was nice and big.  And I think they got a good deal on the rooms.

  • AATB - please to be asking Ben.  Thanks.

Celles - the remodel is definately why we're interested.  It's still pricing out at pre-remodel pricing on Expedia sooooo...I'm hoping the pool is open though.

  • Oh, the front desk told us that the pool re-opens this weekend.

  • With the monorail though, you can get on at the MGM Grand station and take it to the other end of the Strip.

  • Oh, another thing: there didn't seem to be a lot of options for food at Tropicana (just one restaurant that we saw, and a Starbucks kiosk conveniently located right outside the elevators), so if you're looking for a hotel you never have to leave, I'd recommend staying someplace like Paris.  But if you're okay leaving the hotel for meals and shopping and general exploration, then I'd stay at Tropicana for the high quality-to-price ratio and the fact that you can breathe easily there (the smoke hasn't had time to settle, post-remodel), and then do meals elsewhere.  We did lunch and dinner at New York, New York, since it's close and has a nice variety to choose from.

  • I have a friend who goes all the time and he said that even though he didnt stay there, that the renovations looked really nice.

He did say he doesnt like the casino there.
