Mystic Seaport

Hi again

So I wrote yesterday that my FI and I are looking for a reception location near the water and after seeing some Mystic Seaport suggestions  checked it out and I think it would be perfect for us!! I really loved the Boat Shed because it seems like it would be casual and fun-just what we are looking for!!! But my big concern is what happens when it rains! Has anyone been there for a wedding? Checked it out? Know anything about a rain plan?

Thank you!!!!!

Hmmm I'm not really much help with the Boat Shed.  We checked it out last year but ended up going with the River Room/North Lawn.  I can't remember if I had asked about a rain plan at that point.
Definitely make an appointment with them, though, to check out the grounds.  It's a great location!
    Good luck

We wanted to get married at the Seaport it has special meaning for us, but opted not to.  We looked at the boatshed and does have vinyl sides that close off for the rain.

My FI and I actually went to a wedding at the Boat Shed in June 2006.  It actually ended up being a chilly (low 50s) drizzly day, and to be honest, I was freezing the entire night!  Not sure why, but they only put about half of the side flaps down, so it never warmed up.  Also an FYI, the bathrooms are across the way (so you have to exit the Boat Shed to an uncovered walkway) so we had to trudge out into the rain every time we needed to use the restroom.

On kind of a funny-ish note, a seagull actually came down and took a bite out of their cake!  I'm sure the bride and groom were not amused though...   I guess it was memorable to say the least!

But had it NOT been cold and raining, I think it would have been a great venue.  I loved how it was right on the water, and of course the Seaport is beautiful.  Then again you can never predict the weather, and I would dread going to another wedding there on a rainy day.

Thank you so much for the advice!!! I haven't seen the River Room yet (other than online of course) but you like it? Would reccomend it?

Thank you! I am new to this whole knot thing, but I have to say I love being able to talk to other people who are in the same spot as me!!

I love the River Room, it is definitely more formal than the Boat Shed, but it still has a rustic nautical feel that I loved. There is a covered tent outside for cocktails and we and also the North Lawn overlooking the river. I would definitely recommend taking a look at it if you are looking at the Boat Shed.  I also loved being able to use the Seaport for photos.
    Good Luck Searching!
