we are using Jason as well.  What is your definition of affordable?  Less than $1K?  Jason has all different packages.

i Just used him for my wedding in July. When we booked with him, he had 3 package options ranging from $1,000 - $3,000 roughly. (He was by far the most reasonably priced photographer we met with)

Absolutely! He does amazing work!!! If you haven't yet, you should go check out his blog and look at the samples he puts up of all weddings/engagement shoots he does. All our family/friends have been raving about our wedding pics and our engagement pics.

Our photographer is $1000 for all day coverage, rites to images, and an album (we were also able to negotiate a engagement shoot) and they did an amazing job.

For that budget, I think you'd be limited to a photography student or someone who's just starting out in the business, if you wanted all-day coverage. Or you'd probably pay that much for an established professional photographer to just shoot your ceremony and a few minutes' worth of formal shots, but they may turn you down if they have full-day weddings booked for your date. Jason Rhee is one of the lowest-priced (yet talented) photographers I've seen on this board, so if he's out of your price range then I don't think you'll find much else here. (ETA, I see someone posted something, good!).

My friends recently had a laid-back wedding and were looking for an inexpensive photographer. The bride's makeup was done by the groom's cousin ... the cousin, though her work as a makeup artist, knew a photographer who's just starting out (or she may have been a student, I forget) and put the bride in touch with her. I saw a few teaser shots and they look nice. Our mutual friend has a really nice camera and a good eye ... she made sure to take a ton of shots throughout the day and they're really nice. They didn't hire a videographer so our mutual friend videtaped the ceremony and special stuff at the reception for them, too. Their minister was a friend of theirs and actually took some great shots of the formal pics/reception.

For a $900 budget, I'd put word out to your friends and your wedding vendors and ask if they know someone, and I would contact some local colleges with photography programs to ask if you can hire someone. I'd also contact pro photographers from this board and ask if they can do anything for you at that price. You can try Craigslist, although I would be super-careful to check their references. And I would ask your wedding guests to please bring their cameras and take lots of photos for you. I might also contact some area newspapers and ask if they have any freelance photographers who could help you out ... check WPJA.com as well.

I think you have options out there, but it's going to take a lot of research and creativity and digging. And if you find someone you might like and you post their website/blog here, I'm sure everyone would be happy to give you their opinion of their work to help you make a decision. Good luck!
