The Baking Institute or Oak Mill Bakery

Has anyone used either of these bakeries:

The Baking Institute in NorthBrook
or
Oak Mill Bakery in Bucktown

Our cake is included in our package and we have the option of going to one of the above.

Any opinions you have would be great!  Thanks!

    I've been to a couple of weddings that used Oak Mill Bakery and thought the cakes were really tasty, and would consider them if we could.

    Our reception site works with The Baking Institute, so I'm curious to see what others have to say about it!

    i only know oak mill bakery because the mom of a girl i was on cheerleading with in HS owns it. they do the baking for our local grocery store (marianos) and everything always looks so delicious and wonderful. i've never actually had one of their cakes but their cookies are delicious.

    my reception hall is in the midst of choosing a new baker, and the baking institute is among their options. i'm not sure who they will choose, but if it is the baking institute, i'll get to taste their cake in about 20 days when we have our tasting!
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

    Our cake was from the baking institute and it was good. The owner is a bit unfriendly, but you don't see him that often, so it's not a big deal.

    Good to know that Oak Mill Bakery has items at Marianos!  We go there all the time.

    We just had a tasting at The Baking Institute with the owner Igor.  Before the tasting we had to select three cakes and three fillings.  It's hard to choose since we are not really cake experts and not sure what goes with what.  I liked two out of the three cakes we tasted.  My FI thought the cakes were pretty dry.  We have a tasting next week at Oak Mill Bakery so we'll see how that one goes.  So far Oak Mill Bakery seems more attentive and responsive.

    Oak Mill!  We wanted to use Oak Mill, but one of our top venues don't use them.  So it might not be an option for us.

    Update: So we just had our tasting at Oak Mill Bakery and I have to say that I was pretty disappointed.  The manager we were working with was pretty dry and unenthusiastic.  The flavors of the cake were not has good as the Baking Institute.  Although, I must say that a positive they had were a lot of pictures of designs to choose from.
