NWR-reenacting

Since a lot of you ask about my reenacting I thought I'd just make a new post for it. :D

1. Yes, we all have our own clothes. Some of us make them, some of us buy them. I have made all of my clothes (some by machine, some by hand) I don't have a lot of pictures of me in my clothes, but I will post a few.

This is pretty much my "under clothing" a chemice and stays. The stays weren't completely finished at this point. I still had to finish the straps.

here are some more pictures. Please excuse the strange expressions. (I'm the one standing in pic #1) I wish I had a picture of me in my fancy dress, unfortunately I don't have one :(

2. What do I like about it? Well, I like dressing up, sleeping in a tent, and cooking over a fire. I also like helping people learn about history.

3. How'd I get into it? Well my best friend's family got into it and they invited me to join them. The second year I went with them I met Luke.

4. What side am I on? I am technically on the British side. Luke's unit is British, and since I am with them my loyalties lie with the British. However, due to where his unit would have been during the war, and the fact that they weren't allowed to take wives with them, the only women they would have with them would be stolen, and French. So long story short I'm French, but with the British.

feel free to ask anything else!

How many days a year do you do this? I used to visit reenactments when I was younger my Mom took me to learn about history and I learned so much.

I agree with how many days a year.  Do they have it all over the US or just in certain parts?  I know nothing about it but I'd love to!!

We only do "official" events a few times a year. We have other get togethers during the winter INSIDE! Usually events are just one weekend a year. For instance we went to an event on weekend in Fort Wayne this past August.
As far as I know they take place EVERYWHERE, maybe not French and Indian War ones, but all sorts of others do.

I have a non-reenactment related question.  You're from somewhere in Indiana, and I respect that you don't want to say where, but I'm curious what part of the state.  My mom is originally from Whiteland/Frankling area, and her family is in South Bend/Elkhart now, so I'm always interested to know where other Hoosiers live!

I live in a small Southern town with our own little piece of CW history, so we have reenactments at least once a year, and I also live in Virginia, which is just covered in Revolutionary and CW battlefields.  Reenactment has always enthralled me...I love the period clothing and encampments...but the one thing I can't get past...and I'm not even kidding...is the gun & cannon fire.  Fireworks, guns, plane engines...they all hurt my ears and I don't think I could be an effective front-lines nurse if I was in a corner with my ears covered the whole time.  :-\

I'm between Roanoke and West Virginia...about 45 minutes from Tech. :)  But I go to Liberty, so I "live" in Lynchburg during the school year.

I've never gotten to go to the Fort Wayne reenactments but I've heard they're great.  I was in a reeanactment over in Ohio for the War of 1812, and I had a blast.  My friend was in charge of the drum and bugle corps, but had had no fifers for the weekend, so he lent me his brother's fife, and I learned it in 3 days!  Talk about trial by fire!  It was a ton of fun, and I'd consider doing it again if I lived closer now and didn't have work stuff going on every other weekend!

And yay for another Hoosier!!  I live in the South Bend area, and I find that on the Indiana boards everyone is either in Indianapolis or Fort Wayne.
