5 months to soon?

I was thinking about going to get our marriage license next month with my tax money to get it out of the way in Minnesota they are good for 6 months and next month we will be down to 5 months. Id rather have it done and out of the way there is going to be so much to do as we get closer I am freaking out just thinking about it

  • If there good for that long id say go for it to get it out of the way especially since you have the money now. Just make sure you put it in a safe place that you wont forget it! I would put it somewhere and not remember where it was!

  • It depends on what state you are getting married in.  I'm getting married in MA and I'm pretty sure the license is only good for a month.

  • It depends on your state for length of time they are good for.  Also, pretty sure Minnesota gives a discount if you have premarital counseling before purchasing the license (but you have to bring proof of completion), so if you are going to do premarital counseling I would definitely wait to get your license (I think it saves you a good chunk of money)!!

  • I would check before to see how long they are good for. I know in PA they are only good for 60 days and you can get them in any county in the state, but they all may require a few different documents in order to get them.
  • I would wait another month. I know no one wants to hear this but you NEVER know what will happen. during my wedding weekend last year (same weekend) there was a huge hurricane here and tons of brides had to push their weddings back a month or a few weeks.

the odds of somethin like that happening are slim- but you just never know.

A lot of those girls had to go have their licenses renewed. but some didnt know that the license expired and so they ended up not having an "official marriage and had to go back to the court house.

Other things that our officiant has said has happened: the bride gets pregnant and mvoes up the date a month,  a death in the family leads the wedding to be postponed a month or two, travel conditions, weather. etc

I think its worht giving yourself 2-3 months of wiggle room.

  • ps im jealous that its good for 6 months.
in RI the marriage license is only good for 2 weeks. This is making thigns very stressful beacuse the office is only open from 10-3 during the week so we ahve to take time out of work 2 weeks before thewedding to go get it!
