An appropriate reading

My Fiance and I, along with his 9 year old son, will be doing a sand ceremony during the wedding. My FI wants his son to feel like we are now a family, and that just because he is getting married it does not mean that he will be any less of a father, but that his son will have another person in his life that loves him and promises to take care of him.

I have seen some readings used in sand ceremonies between just the bride and groom, but have not yet come across one that fits our situation. My FSS' mom is still in the picture and in no way do I want to undermine her as his mother with this ceremony, but just add to group of people in his life that love him.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a reading you may have come across, or taken part in yourself?

Re: An appropriate reading

  • We are using something similar to this.  Hope it helps!

"____ and _____, today you are making a life-long commitment to share the rest of your lives with each other and honor (child's name) as well. Your family relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these individual containers of sand; one, representing you, ____, and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be, one representing you, _____, and all that you were and all that you are, and all that you will ever be and another container for (child).
There is a child who will share in this marriage. (Child) will now come forward to help us with the Blending of the Sands. The gathering of this new family will have a deep influence upon them. We realize that in order for the home to be a happy one, it is essential that there be love and understanding between the child and the adults being married.
You may now blend the sand together symbolizing the uniting of the child and bride and groom into one.
Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage and your family be. "
