Help with Photographer

Does anyone know of any photographers on the cheap side? Maybe someone who just got out of the Art Institute and needing to build a portfolio? The only photographers I've found online are at least $1500, and with our budget, we just can't afford that. My FI refuses to pay that much, and so as of right now, we are relying on a couple of his friends who have nice cameras. I don't want to leave it to chance, though, so I am willing to pay for the photographer myself, but it has to be less than $800. Does anyone know someone who would fit this description? Thanks!

Jim Powers runs at $800 I believe-no prints, but full day coverage, engagement session, and DVD w/ copyrights..and he's good. Also, Countless Memories Photography has packages starting at $350 or so...that low package is only for 1-2 hours, but they have packages that go up from there so they would probably have a good package for around $800. Good luck!

Jim Powers is doing ours.  He is charging us $850 and that includes a 2 hour engagement session, full day wedding covereage, a DVD with the images, a license to use, so you can print your own pictures.

We have our engagement session with him October 24th and that will be the first time meeting with him.  When I contacted him he gave me lots of helpful information and seems really put together and friendly.  I am excited to work with him.  Also, via our email communication he sent me links to some prior engagement sessions and wedding he had done and it looks like pretty good quality.  It isn't very photojournalisty, which is a growing trend, however, it is good, quality photographs.

I contacted him through his website www.jimbobp.com. He then contacted me from another email address.

I think we are going to be pleased.  We too weren't wanting to spend an arm and a leg on photography and Jim seems like a great photographer for the price he charges!

Another option is Jeni Friend.  I found her as a recommendation on this site several months ago & hired her.  We got the cheapest package at $500 which included an engagement sesssion (which we just had & really liked her!) & 4 hours for the wedding day.  You can add on from there if you want more time, etc.  Her website is jenifriendphotography.com.  We haven't seen any of our pics yet, but the ones she has on her site plus the couple she showed us while we were taking our pics looked pretty good!

Another couple of names I remember from my search were Terri Voyles & Mark Sorensen.  You may want to check them out as well.

    Good luck!

I may be going with Mark Sorenson..I really like him but his cheapest package at the moment is $1,000. But remember, lots of photographers will customize packages to fit your budget.

We are using Clashing Collaborations- a husband and wife team. It's $150 an hour for 2 photographers and they provide you all the pics on a CD for printing. We did 4 hours for $600...(913) 406-4360.

FWIW, we used Jim Powers.  He was great to work with and cheap, especially considering I didn't have to watch the clock at all.  It was $850 and I got a ridiculous amount of photos back, which I love.

Good luck.  Definitely shop around and you'll find someone in your budget.  My advice would be to make sure you and the photographer have similar styles first, and make sure you're really comfortable with them.  If you're not happy with them, it's not worth saving a little bit of cash.

If you are wanting to save some money on engagment pics, I know Dancing Man Studio is hosting a fundraiser event on Oct 23rd. $30 for 45-60 min session and you get a CD of all edited photos. Proceeds are going to Passionatly Pink for the Cure. Info can be found at facebook.com/dancingmanstudio. I also know they work with their clients to suit their needs if you talk to them.
