Wedding Wednesday

Good morning lovelies! Let's hear about your checks!

FI finally asked his cousin to officiate for us. He also asked two of his cousins if they're daughters would be our flower girls. We actually talked right to one of the girls, Isabel. Her mom told us she said she was the ugly one and that no one wanted her in their wedding (FI's cousin who is our officiant is getting married in December and is getting two step daughters out of it so the two of them and the other little cousin we asked are his flower girls. They left her out and she was really upset). So we asked her directly and her mom, FI's cousin was saying she was so excited she was jumping up and down and now all she does is ask about what to do and what dress she'll wear.

I'm going dress shopping, again, on Friday. Fingers crossed.

I had an appointment for a make up consultation for tomorrow, but I postponed it until October. I have no intention of having my trial this early. Plus I really like the girl so far. We click pretty well, so as long as she makes me pretty I'll go with her. She has my date set aside for me, so that's good. I still might bump it down for an earlier time in the day, take the day off work, go get my make up done, then drive to my hair dresser's house and have that done the same day and get the full effect.

I also ordered 18 eggplant purple table runners of the classifieds board. Only cost me $36 including shipping, which is awesome! I don't know how many of you frequent the classfieds board, but you should, it's great!

Annndddd, today is my ten month mark! Woo!

I'm taking tomorrow and Friday off work. Today is my Friday. I'm pumped!

  • Nothing. Zilch. I've been away for the past two weeks on vacation and then at a work conference, and now I'm freaking out that I have a million things to do and I don't even know what they are. ::Deep breath::

  • I sent a facebook message to my BM's last night about dresses and sent them the links to all the designers the bridal shop carries. Two of them are moving into an apartment today and now say they're not going to get all their packing done. hahahaha I told them the length and color I want and told them to find styles they like so we can start narrowing it down.

My mom and I bought our Hobby Lobby out of the purple roses we're using, and I bought my first three brooches.

  • That's awesome that you got the officiant set! And that's so cute that you made that girl's day by asking her to be a flower girl! Good luck dress shopping.. You have  some very good choices there= tough decisions!

I made  A LOT of progress this week, you girls are going to be proud!!

Sunday we met with the officiant and the DJ. Officiant and his wife are very nice people and they are giving us an AWESOME deal. He said because he thought I was so sweet in my initial e-mail and phone call. Aw how nice. He is giving us the sand ceremony free of charge, but I am still on the fence about that. What do you girls think about those? Are they a bit corny? I guess I have time to decide if I want to do that.

And FI works with the DJ, so he is giving us an AWESOME deal as well. I am a little worried because this DJ was a little scatterbrained when I met him (but i think it's cuz he didn't sleep all weekend and was burnt out) BUT I told my FI that I am putting my faith in him with this because he knows him and speaks highly of him. So this is his thing! He works with FI at a radio station doing promotion events, so he has got to be pretty good. He also pushed to have FI promoted to the job he is in now, so that is another plus. He is letting us pick ALL the music for the entire time, which is good. I just need to e-mail my wedding party and have them help me with song ideas! There is no way I can do that all myself! He also gave us some ideas for things we can do during the reception, like a trivia game for prizes, etc. So all in all, I learned a lot on Sunday..and made major progress!

And Monday, like I told you girls already, we went to a bridal expo and got some ideas. I also asked my 16 yr old cousin if she wants to be a bridesmaid. She was so excited!!! She is an INCREDIBLE artist and she is really excited to help me w/the DIY stuff. So she is going to be my main helper because like I said, my SIL is going to be the MOH at her sister's wedding right after mine, and all my other girls live out of state.   So I will be having 4 bridesmaids, a Maid of Honor, and a Man of Honor! This should be interesting :)

This weekend i'm possibly going dress browsing with mom and dad. But not sure yet. I still want to lose some weight before trying on any dresses. I know, i should just go...but I want to feel more confident so that will just motivate me to stick with my plan. If i feel huge in the dresses I have a feeling that will set me back a bit.

    Happy planning!

  • For the first time in weeks, I actually got real stuff accomplished.

Last Friday, we went to look at suits witih Best Man-zilla. We were both able to agree on everything, so we've signed the paperwork to lock in the prices for the rentals.

I asked my little brother to be a groomsman. He's so cute, he's only 13, and he was like, "well, I'm going to be a groomsman in K.'s (one of our sisters) wedding this fall, so I'll already have some practice."

I also got the cake design squared away with my sister who is making the cake. We still have to pick flavors though.

I also did some work (read: spray painted) on some decorations that my mom found for me.

Lastly, I found a hairdresser!! The salon is the next town over from our venue, and their prices are reasonable. The woman I spoke to was super sweet and very helpful, and I can't wait to do my hair trial.

  • I haven't gotten too much done :( but I started really early with my planning (like RIGHT after the engagement) so I probably have more done than I think I do :)  I asked my last BM this week, FI asked his last GM also.  I'm SO proud of FI because he's actually forward thinking about GM gifts and trying to decide what to do...now if he'd only decide about traditional vs. non-traditional boutennieres :P  Had a small shoe setback, the vintage shoes I ordered from Etsy didn't fit so I had to send them back :(  Looking for shoes again...sigh.  Other than that, the venue's been set, photographer's set, we've pretty much decided on caterer (just have to decide on menu and place deposit).  I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

  • Wow ladies for those of you that have been doing things way to go! For those who took a bit of a break we have plenty of time lol. I myself have been getting ready for the trip to my family's camp this weekend. We get to go see my great grandmother who wasn't doing too well, and is now home. This coming weekend is the fishing derby my family helps put together and it's in honor of my great grandfather. I can't wait to get up there and see my family and such. With it being pretty far away we don't get up there as ofen as we should. Anyways on to wedding stuff... Our Harborfest was this weekend and a bunch of crafters came up so we went looking around. My fiance bought me a necklace and earring set, and another necklace to wear on our wedding day. One to wear for the ceremony and another to wear for our reception. One's a bit lighter and will work better for dancing I just need to get a pair of stud earrings to go with it. We also found some clips for my hair. The lady we bought them from said she'd make my veil and soe it onto my hair clip. I also designed what I want our wedding cake to look like. We just have to have a tasting with the person in town and see if we want them. So that's pretty much what I've gotten done this week. So not a whole heck of a lot. I'm kind of transitioning back into school mode right now, because that's what I'm going to be focusing on.
  • Good to see that a lot of us are getting things done! I finally kicked myself in the butt and booked the meetings with our potential officiant and the potential bakery. I am soooo excited to try out all the different cake flavors!!! The bakery has awesome reviews, so I'm pretty sure they won't dissapoint. One of the last meetings that we have to book is the flowers, but I'm waiting to here from my FI to see if he wants to do it at the same day as the cake and the officiant or if he thinks that would be an overkill. lol
Oh, and I've also asked my younger brother to be a groomsman - he is my only sibling and we are super close, and he also has a great relationship with my FI.

  • Just mailed out the contract and deposit on our band. I freaked out last night when I realized we'd be paying for 6 band members to eat instead of 1 DJ. Oops. I emailed our caterer about vendor and kids' meals. She is charging us full price for vendors, but $15 for kids, so it actually evens out.

I'm meeting with a florist tonight. I'd be excited if I wasn't so tired and if she didn't live an hour away. I'm probably going with another florist I've been exchanging emails with, but I have to go tonight in case the other one turns out to be a flake or something.

MrsK: When you're negotiating with bands, make sure you know how long they'll be playing for when they quote a price. We got a great price on ours, and I convinced FI to go with them. Then they sent me a contract with that price for only 4 hours. Maybe that's normal, but I wish I had negotiated better.

  • Wow, way to go everyone! I haven't been doing as much as I should be... I ordered new Save the Dates last night, because the ones we bought from Vista Print turned out horrible. Luckily I got my $$ refunded back to me. I've been in touch with my hair stylist and she is going to do our hair for the wedding. We're doing food tasting in a few weeks at our reception, which I am very excited for! The one thing I really want to get booked (and should ASAP) is the party bus. Seeing as there are a ton of June weddings next year, I don't want to be stuck with paying a super expensive one for only a few hours.

  • I'm sending in the deposit check to our caterer this week and I need to send a check to hold the boudoir session I have set up for the end of the month. Other than paying for things I've been on FI lately about figuring out his guest list so we can get to work on the save the dates and figure out how many we'll need. I originally was going to make my own but did a test yesterday and they came out so cheap I hated them. Now we need to look for a new cheap but nice option.

  • My Uncle is going to officiate our wedding.
I am taking engagement pictures this Friday night.
    Dress shopping is this Saturday.
I am so excited about all of this!

I think my next step is going to be sitting down with my FI and having a serious talk about how we are going to serve food. We haven't decided if we want a caterer or not.

  • I haven't too much done but I seem to be moving along ok. I think I found my dress but I have another appointment Tuesday which thank goodness I called because they had me on Wednesday which kinda pissed me off cause I specifically made the appointment for Tuesday because that is the day one of my BM's has off and everyone else worked around her schedule because it's her friend that works at the salon (the only reason I'm really going there). But when I called they told me she doesn't work on Tuesdays so now I'm really going for no reason, I'm not sure if this is a sign that the dress from Saturday is the one.

Anyway, I also ordered a couple of samples of invitations from Etsy which will also be our save the dates and my sister is supposed to making florist appointments for next Tuesday as well since we took the day off we minus well take advantage. We also have an appointment with the venue Sunday to show my mom the place and talk decor and linens.

The only thing I really need to do is call the photographer and set up our e-pics but I keep forgetting.

  • I love reading what you all are up to.... here's a few comments:

cnf - good luck dress shopping. post pics if you are allowed to take them!

jennifer - i don't know the purpose of the sand thing. i guess find out more about it and decide that way. our church recommended that we do NOT do the unity candle bc they feel the symbolism of "untiy" is what the entire ceremony and the rings are for, so in their service it's a bit redundant.

anastassiiat - super awesome about having your bro as a GM and that he is close with your FI so that it doesn't feel forced.

bar10521 - risque! how exciting! i was considering doing a boudoir shoot somewhere down the line.

LouD - that's so special that you have your uncle as an officiant!

Okay, my stuff... I really haven't posted accomplishments since day one, so here they are:
checks: church, venue (includes caterers), photogrpaher, BMs, GMs, dress, DJ
    almosts: BM dresses, guestlist, officiant
still working on: flowers, budgeting for cinematographer, accessories, getting in shape (met my monthly goal...need to set a new one)
procrastinating: shoe shopping, menu, e-photos, save the dates, transportation

I'm sure there's more, but that sums it up. Right now the 2 biggest things are deciding what cinematography package to purchase ($$$ ugh) and working on the guestlist.

  • Let's see...

The DJ. FBIL has a DJing company and FI finally talked to him and we got a great deal and he has our date saved.

The Cake. Sunday we went cake tasting and we decided on our flavors & design. Once I get paid I'm putting a deposit on the cake.

The only "big" things I have left are caterers, tents & transportation. We have BM & GM attire to figure out but we are having trouble selecting GM. It'd kind if an all or nothing situation and people are making it a hard choice. Then there are the little details for the reception that I will worry about later.

  • I have done really nothing this week wedding related and am not doing anything next week either. I needed a break, I am starting a new job, and we are leaving for Vegas this weekend.

The only thing I have remotely done is that I made an appointment for us to register at Macys on October 4th. Detroit area ladies: They are doing scan for a grand/sip and scan event that night at the 12 Oaks Macys. Apparently they do them at Somerset too but I dont know if its happening the same night. It starts at 5 and goes until close and you have to reserve your spot.

mrsk: I dont know if you have ever gone through the vendor stickies at the top of the Detroit board for makeup artists. A lot of ladies have used I make you up by Aleksandra, which I know is airbrush. Other ones recommended are bridesmaid beautiful and deux adore.

  • Very early, but due to half my girls being in school, we went shopping and all the girls loved their dresses so they all ordered their dress! One big check done. I also bought a sash to go With my dress and tried on veils and I think I know the one I am getting. Next is more meeting with our church next Friday.

  • Not much done this week. Got the detailed quote from the florist where we live. Unfortunately I won't be using her just because of proximity. I'd rather have a florist in town in case something goes wrong.

I have a date set to take my MOH dress shopping and a tenative date for another bridesmaid. Just have to wait until October for my cousin/bridesmaid since there is too many weddings she's attending in September to make it work. I need to remember to ask where dresses are made so we don't have to deal with Chinese New Year.

Not much has gotten done with both parents having health issues. It's just not my week. :(
  • Well... I sent the deposit to our florist yesterday.  Today, the "test tablecloth" that I ordered arrived.  I want to do a mock up of our tables, with our centerpieces, the table clothes, table numbers, yada yada, to make sure it looks as awesome in real life as it does in my head.

Most importantly,  we're going to Pittsburgh this weekend for my family reunion.  I get to spend some time with my favorite most favoritest aunt, who recently relocated to Kansas City.  We're going to ask her to read a poem during the ceremony.  I'm so pumped to see her, she's sent me two emails reminding  me to bring all my wedding stuff, which is nice because my mom and sister are being such thunderdouches lately.

  • Well today is the 10 month mark for me!  We met with a potential officiant on Saturday and it went pretty well.  My fiance is going to email him tomorrow with a few final questions, but I think we're booking him!  He's really all about making the ceremony personal and I love the samples he has online!

I also have a meeting with a potential florist tomorrow!  I actually didn't want a florist - I wanted to do it on my own to save money because flowers are crazy expensive in Philly.  But I sent this woman my flower pinterest page and let her know how many flowers I need and what my budget is, and she agreed to meet with me, so I guess she's willing to work with my small budget!  I'm excited to finally see what I can afford to get!
