Why don't they just charge $100 extra dollars a plate? I mean really, if someone is going to spend $400 per head on a meal, why would they turn their nose up at $500 per head?

Exactly. Shouldn't such things be built into the price? Also: WTF @ that price

And $5 for a frigging coke? That sht better come with a foot massage.

I love how the coke is billed separately, but none of the alcoholic drinks are. I'm hoping the $400 prix fixe comes with wine or something.

And I get that it's NYC, but every restaurant has operating costs. It's built in to the price of the food.  I don't see why pricey restaurants should be any different.

I also feel this way about airline fees. Why charge people $25 for a checked bag instead of just increasing all ticket prices by $25.  There would be SO much more goodwill, you know?

Okay, it's dickish of the restaurant to do this, but it's more dickish IMO for the customer not to tip the server. It's not their fault the restaurant owners are assholes, and they probably worked their a$$ off for a table with a bill that high. Also, servers have to tip out bar and bus, so getting stiffed on that table cost them at least $50.

Agreed 100% on this.  I would tip the server, but you can bet I wouldn't go back to the restaurant.  I'm sure there are many many other restaurants in NYC ready to take my $2500 for a party of 4.

i disagree on the airlines fees.  it's more equitable to charge people who are using than charge everyone, some who may be using this and others who may not.

More equitable, true. But for about a zillion years, there were no fees for bags, and everyone was happy, even the people who didn't check their bags.  They annoyed a lot of people in this process, cost themselves more money in boarding time, and added annoyance to an already-annoying process... lather rinse, repeat, grab 2 beers and head for the emergency slide.
