Budget question.

If you are under budget for an area are you saving it or are you spending it in another area? Doing anything else?

Re: Budget question.

  • My parents are paying for the wedding, so my guess is that they are saving it.  I know we are under budget, but by how much I don't know.
  • We're $3000 under budget and I really don't know where we'd spend the extra. We'll use some for HM then leave the rest in savings. It's nice because at first I was thinking our budget wasn't big enough but I was pleasantly surprised :)
  • I voted "saving" but likely it will be rolled into what we're saving for the HM next winter.  Overall though, whatever we have left over in any budget will roll over into the next thing we do, whether it's from the wedding to the HM, the HM to our next move, our next move to buying a house, etc.

  • I voted other because I am kind of doing both.
I had some money left over so I am getting cloth tablecloths, which we will sell after. Other than that, I can't think of anything that I would want to add or upgrade.

I just updated our budget since I bought some stuff. We (mostly me) have spent $1,000 on wedding stuff so far, and our budget is $4,000. His parents are chipping in $2,500 so that leaves me with only $500 left to save! (FI is paying for the honeymoon out of (soon to be our) savings. I am going to be able to contribute money to our savings right away! Yay! I am super excited! We are $118 under budget right now, but I am leaving that as a buffer for those small things that add up in the last few days that may have been forgotten or broken.

  • We're splurging in other areas; the cake was very under-budget and we splurged with uplighting. We saved on the favors (by eliminating them) and splurged on a make up artist. We have saved well for this so we're doing as much as we can to treat ourselves to little extras where we can...

  • We've been underbudget on a few items but have been overbudget on a few others so it's kinda balanced itself out.

If we finish and have some extra cash it will likely just go into making our HM more badass.

  • We didn't figure out a total budget because our parents are splitting the reception so it's the rest of the stuff that's up to us.  Our cake and linens are also included in our package so we don't have to worry about those.  Our photographer is definitely our splurge.  I knew I wanted him before I even met FI because my cousin uses him so he was a definite.  We then looked at DJ's and found that most of them were in the $1700 range, but then we heard of one that was younger, had a great reputation, was cheap, and does it because he loves it, not because it's his job.  We ended up saving over $1000 with him so that was a huge plus and we may decide to do uplighting with him.  Since we are getting married in a garden we also decided that the only flowers we are doing are bouquets and boutineers, no decorations or centerpieces so I guess that was another saving.
  • We're spending the savings because I lost my full time job last year so whatever needs to be paid on we are robbing Peter to pay Paul. Our DJ is free(FI friend and gift to us) My MOH is paying for our cake. My hairstylist(friend) is coming to my venue do my hair for free. We are having the wedding and reception at the same place and they are providing tables, chairs, spandex chair covers, utensils, clean up but no napkins(don't know why). Our splurge was the photographer. The flowers will be done by a local grocery store florist for the low low!! I work part time at a grocery store and she just happened to get married last year so she gifting me favors because she bought too much. Our honeymoon is a different story no money for it and I'm a little sad about that. FI is paying my mortgage and for the wedding so we is broke.
  • Our budget has consisted of figuring out what vendors we'd really like to use and comparing them to others and making the decision from there. Some places we splurged more than I thought we would and others ended up costing less, so it's kind of evened out.
  • We might also add more money to the beer budget. We decided to go with bottles/cans of beer to avoid needing a server. They are more expensive than a keg.

  • We are under budget in most areas, except potentially the food (depending on how many guests attend). So any savings will help offset the food or be saved (though we will end up spending it on our hm since that is not part of our wedding budget. But we aren't going in with the mindset that oh we saved $1000, let's get some room upgrades with that.)

  • My budget is $5000. I'm paying for all of it myself out of savings. FI will pay for the honeymoon (Florida) and the tux rentals. I'm saving in some areas and spending more in others.
  • our budget was originally 10k and got bumped up to 12k. we are about $600 over, but i don't think that's so bad since our estimated guest list was at 200 and we are in reality inviting 292, with the expectation that about 250 will come. without the additional 50 people, we would have been under, even with me splurging (at my mom's insistence) on my dream dress. I found another one that was $500 cheaper, and really liked it, but my mom said I needed to get the one I LOVED, not the one I liked. So I did :) if, by some miricle we end up under, (not likely) we'd probably save it or use it to pay off some credit card debt. our honeymoon is almost completely paid for and any "extras" we want will come from either the $ we get as gifts or we'll just pay for it ourselves. kinda hard to justify a couples' massage and other spa activities when you're already on an awesome vacation :)

Pretty much this.  Also like DrPB whatever is left over it will sit in the savings account and that will become our account to save up for buying a place.
  • We are using our savings for part of our new house down payment.
