Check out this thread: Poll....to help out ParkerCampbell we all polled our budgets :) It's on the second page right now started by kinmir. But you can check out the budget section of this site for an approx breakdown (50% venue&food, 10% photog, 10% flowers, etc...)

You should decide what the most important 'things' are to you regarding your wedding.  Is it the dress?  Is it the flowers?  Is it the photographer?  When you have your top 5 things do some research to find out what those things will cost for what you are looking for (you may want huge centerpieces, that will cost more than those ugly flowers floating in a vase with a candle stuck in the middle), the photographer you have to have might end up being 40% of your budget...

After you've decided how much you'll be spending on the things that are most important to you, you can decide how much is left to plan for everything else.  There are enough options in regards to venues, caterers, etc. to be able to make a decent budget and have the things you want.  It only happens once!

    Good luck!

    First, Congrats!

For us, we needed to work on our guest list first ... to see if a small weddng was possible (it wasn't) ... and then went from there.  We decided what were our top priorities, and used averages to put it all together.
