Using Mariella's for Alterations

I'm interested in hearing reviews from those of you who have used Mariella's for alterations - specifically for BM dresses. My gown is not from Mariella's, but my BM dresses are...and they just arrived. My BMs are not sure if they should use the alterations dept at Mariella's, or go with some independent seamstresses that they have used in the past. Has anyone had a good/bad experience with Mariella's for alterations?

Also, does anyone know how their alteration fees compare with other seamstresses?

Re: Using Mariella's for Alterations

  • I had a good experience with them for a bridesmaid dress. I think my alterations totaled around $80 dollars( I think - this is going back a couple of years) or so for a hem and moving straps and taking it a little bit in. They were good though, no complaints.

  • I had a good experience with them for a BM dress.  I think my alterations cost about $75.  This was 2 summers ago.

  • My sister bought her wedding dress from Mariella's and had her alterations done there and I didn't hear any complaints. I ordered my dress from there and will be having my alterations there as well. The dress won't be in until September so I can't give feedback directly. I haven't heard anything bad about their alterations department though.

  • THEY ARE AMAZING! I got a dress there for my cousin's wedding and the alterations department was fantastic. When the dress came in it fit NO ONE right (it was the cute of the dress, you had to be a size 2 with no shape for this dress to work - forget having boobs or a butt). I was in the dressing room in tears because literally my entire chest was popping out of the dress (like I was going to flash someone) and ready to tell my cousin I wouldn't be a BM. They were able to get extra material and sew the dress and you cannot tell at all! I would use them again in a heartbeat.

I bought my wedding dress there and had the BM's get theres. they were dutchess satin and they took everyone's in and they looked perfect! (even my 85lb 12 year old neice) she wanted to look like the other girls and opted for the same strapless dress. they did a wonderful job and i'd highly recommend!

They're great...and do a wonderful job, but they are pretty pricey.  If it was for your wedding gown, I'd say pay the price...I did ($750 on a $1,000 sample gown, yikes!).  For simple alterations on a basic BM dress, I'd look elsewhere :)
