How many registries do you have?

I keep fighting the urge to open up new registries! Partially, just because it's fun (and how often do you get the chance to do one?) but also I haven't found a store that has everything I want!

How many different registries do you have? Which store was your favorite to deal with?

Re: How many registries do you have?

• 2 - Macys and Target. We did crystal, china, and everyday dishes at Macys, and then appliances and smaller items at Target. I've heard a lot of bad things about the Target registry, but so far we haven't had any problems. The thing I like the most about the Macys registry is that since I have a Macy's card, we'll get 5% of the amount spent on our registry back as a gift card.

We had 3.

BBB - Fine china, crystal, flatware, bed linens, pots/pans
Target - basic small kitchen appliances, kitchen gadgets, linens
Kohl's - Fiesta everyday dishes, towels

My fav was BBB. I love china!

We have 3, technically, but we only put 2 of them on our wedding website (Macys & BBB). The third is an Amazon universal registry that's very small (<10 items) and kind of hodgepodge, mostly there for a few people who asked our opinion on very specific items.

ETA: If you're feeling the desire to keep making registries at different stores as you find things you like, I would make an Amazon universal registry and just use that. That way you don't have 5 or 6 very small registries, you can just put that stuff on the Amazon registry.

We have 4, which is common in my circle.  We're also inviting around 400 people, so we needed a lot of choices:

-Macys: fine china, flatware, cookware, cutlery, small appliances, fiesta (ditto PP about getting 5% back for being a cardholder - it's pretty great)
-CB: stemware, casual flatware, some casual entertaining pieces
-PB: bedding, bath stuff
-WS: bakeware, gadgets, cutting boards, table linens - I also have a credti card with them and get 3% back on registry purchases

Macy's in my favorite, then probably WS, then PB, then CB.  But I love them all :)

• We had 3 registries -- Crate & Barrel, Macy's, and Pottery Barn.  I would have skipped registering at Macy's altogether, but we needed to have a registry that was accessible for everyone.  H and I had fun registering for kitchen items at C&B.  He used to turn his nose at the store, but once was in there and scanning stuff, he realized that he liked it.  My favorite was PB for decor and entertaining pieces.

• We're registered at Crate and Barrel and BBB. They were both fun to create but I think my favorite has been CB, just because I've always loved that store. The registry event CB hosted was also really fun! I figured we would have had more friends and family use the BBB one because CBs are harder to find in some areas and for the BBB coupons you get in the mail sometimes, but so far our CB has a ton more items fulfilled than the BBB. I've thought about a third registry, but at this point I think we can find everything we'd like at either CB or BBB.

Just one: Crate and Barrel. We considered doing another like Macy's, but they had everything we really wanted.

You get 10% back on any purchases you make using your Macy's card too.

We have 3: Macy's, BB&B and Amazon.  The only one I've done in person is the Macy's one, so I can't really say which experience was my favorite.  Don't let anyone tell you that you can only do one, but I wouldn't do more than 3 or 4.  Amazon is a great one for finding non-traditional and non-home items, but any store that has a web site is universal.

Two - Bloomingdales for our "basics" like sheets, towels, pots, and pans, and a specialty store in NYC for china (everyday and formal), crystal, and decorative things. In retrospect, I wish we had also registered at Simon Pearce - we ended up registering for a lot of SP pieces, and several guests picked out gifts on their own for us from there, and they have really great stuff. Also, they have one of the best registry perks I've ever come across - you get a weekend at a B&B in Vermont simply for registering, regardless of whether anything gets purchased off your registry!
• 4. 4-6 is pretty common in my circle.

Macy's for crystal, electrics, some kitchen tools, cookware and bakeware, sheets
Crate and Barrel for everyday dishes, dishtowels, kitchen gadgets, table linens, every day stemware, flatware
Bloomingdales for our fine china (the line was discontinued at Macy's but we already had some and had to switch to another store)
Local specialty shop for towels, silver and Simon Pearce glassware
• We only had one registry, at Bed Bath and Beyond.  Our guests were scattered all over the country so we thought it would be best to pick someplace that everyone could shop at.
We are at 4 but thinking about consolidating into 3. Macy's - my fiance's grandmother sent us something from Macy's before we even registered so we figured we should register there but... BBB - has almost everything that we have on our Macys registry too - the same china, Fiestaware, etc was available at BBB  (thinking about getting rid of Macy's but it seems like some people like to go to Macy's more than BBB to shop for gifts).  We also liked being able to actually see and feel the towels and sheets before selecting them - Macy's had a smaller number of choices in the store so we didn't register for the linens there. Williams Sonoma - I think they have great customer service and high quality, long -lasting  items which make the higher prices worthwhile. REI - for camping gear We also have a couple of items on a universal registry (I think Registry360? I've heard Amazon is better though?) i.e. a crawfish boiling pot & burner from home depot.  The salesperson at BBB encouraged us to put the same items from our Macy's registry on our BBB registry (I know they probably get commissions for larger registries or something but she pointed out that people can compare prices, plus they can use their coupons at BBB) - has anyone done this and had problems with duplicates? It seems kind of weird to have the same thing on two different registries.  Maybe we will put all the Macy's items we can onto the BBB registry and then put the rest on a universal registry.

<div>
</div><div>I think it makes more sense for you to just put items on one registry or the other - not both. Not all people compare prices at different stores. I for one do not like shopping at BBB - I would never even look at items on a registry there if another store were an option. You'll end up with duplicates by putting items on two registries. I always find it weird when salespeople suggest that :)</div>
Thanks, I thought it was weird too! The BBB saleswoman actually looked up our Macy's registry while we were in the store and was trying to get us to add the things on it to the BBB one.
Posted by derksenriley
<div>Yeah that's really weird.  I'm like Leisel - I hate shopping at BBB and would go to your Macy's regsitry without really even thinking about it.  At most, I might duplicate one or two things that you really really want, or that you can buy in a set at one place and separately at the other (like knives or pots/pans).  I do actually compare prices, but it doesn't bother me when I see the same stand mixer at Macys and at Amazon, just as long as not more than a few things appear in more than one place.  </div><div>
</div><div>I know a lot of people love BBB but I always think it's sort of weird when I see china and really expensive things other than a few appliances there - I'm sort of old school I guess, but I always expect china to be at a department store and/or specialty shop in the bride's hometown.  Most BBBs don't let you actually see the china before you buy it through them, and that sort of bugs me.</div><div>
</div><div>I would suggest opening a macy's credit card if you don't already have one, linking it to your macy's registry, and then putting the more expensive things there instead of BBB.  You'll get 5% back on what people buy you through macy's and 10% back on what you buy yourself before the wedding - I plan on getting FI's gift there and my BM and parent gifts there.  Macy's sends you a gift card after your wedding with the amount on it.</div>

• We have 3 - Macy's, Crate&Barrel, and BB&B.  Macy's & C&B were our favorites taste wise, but FI's family doesn't have either of those stores by them and god forbid they shop online.  So we opened a BB&B one.

All three stores have been great to deal with, I've already taken returns to all 3 with no problems - I even took a box of beer mugs that broke when the box fell out of my dad's truck - they replaced them all for free, no questions asked!

We have two: BBB & Macy's.

I love our BBB one, but I'm not crazy over Macy's.  Their service has been fine, it's just that I really REALLY wanted a registry at C&B, but there weren't any stores near my hometown and my mom convinced me to register at Macy's because my aunts would want to shop there.  There's barely anything on my Macy's registry and I really wish I had registered at C&B instead.  I also wish I had registered for china but oh well, too late now.
Anniversary
• Two - Crate & Barrel and Kohls.  I would not recommend Kohls, we have had some issues with things disappearing from my registry, it saying I received 2 or something when i really only received 1, one girl said Kohls couldn't find my registry when she came, etc.  I have heard really good things about Macy's.  I actually had told my MIL on a whim I would do Kohls and then she printed out shower invites with Kohls on it and I was stuck.  As for Crate and Barrel I got all my china and silverware from there and love it.

• BB&B and Target.  Future hubby loved Target--he registered for some tools, a couple of DVDs, some board games, etc.  We've both kept our own households for some time, so we don't need a ton in the way of homegoods--really just hoping to upgrade some cookware, add some serveware, etc--so these two were pretty good choices for us.  Plus hubby-to-be is an overgrown kid, so he had way too much fun with the registering gun at Target.  ;-)

Gosh, I basically just opened a registry wherever there was an item I wanted.  I kind of figured, why not, though I now wonder if it'll be hard to manage.  I'm using giftregistry360 and like that they are mostly all listed in one place, so it seems easy to manage so far.  The main ones are Macys, C+B, and Target, but we also have a few items at BBB and PB.  I figure we might as well give people options, and I'm expecting most people to just do online shopping.

Macys invited us to a mocktail party with appetizers and plenty of experts around to teach us about the different cookware, china, etc... so that was my favorite registry process.  We weren't a fan of BBB, where we took the tag gun and left 1.5 hrs later having only chosen two things.  It was too overwhelming somehow.
• According to Mindi Weiss (well-known author/ wedding planner/ etiquette expert) The "ideal" amount is 3:  A department store (target, macys, etc), a chain speciality store (Like PB, C&B, WS, perhaps even BBB), and a boutique that you LOVE.  Of course, substituting AMAZON.COM for a boutique sounds reasonable to me.  I think the idea is that you want your guests to be able to shop a variety of options- and I think that Macy's is honestly where people prefer to shop because they get so many great coupons.

We only registered at Macy's and C&B.  I will say that it is always best to check things out in person if possible before you register.  I registered for a dish set with C&B online and when I got it I hated it- not the color pictured at all.  Now I have to return about 20 individual pieces of every day dishes.
• Also- wish that world market had a registry. They have such neat stuff!
• Has anyone registered at Menards?  We find we spend most of our money there on tools and house projects and think it would be perfect for a registry.  We set up a registry online, but their website won't let us add to it there, we actually have to go to the store.  Wondering if it's that much of a pain for people who want to buy from that registry?
• We have two. One is at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and the other is at Belk. We  did the Belk one because DF's family lives in a really small town and Belk is the only store they have.
