Outdoor Wedding at a public park

My fiance and I are thinking about an outdoor wedding at a small, semi-private, beautiful public park on a lake in Baltimore. We are nervous about the possibly of rain (June wedding), and not having a real back up plan. It's a public park, so i'm not sure if a tent would be acceptable. The reception will be in a restaurant downtown.

Any suggestions??

  • I definitely agree with having a back-up plan. My first suggestion is to post on your local board, over on the left hand side and see if any brides have gotten married there and what they did for a rain plan.

I would talk to your contact at the park to see if they would allow a tent and if they have any on-site locations that are covered in case of rain. If they've hosted weddings before there, I'm sure they've had to deal with that possibility.

  • What park are you thinking of?  I'm trying to think of parks with lakes in Baltimore where I wouldn't be worried about people ruining the privacy.  Rain in June is a real possibility, so you definitely need a good backup plan.
  • We had a wedding at a public park. It probably varies depending on the park, but we were allowed to put up a tent the day of, it just wasn't allowed to stay overnight. We decided instead to use a covered pavillion for our reception and cabaret seating was our rain plan.

I'd probably look into having a tent or using a shelter at the park, but you may be able to pull off cabaret seating at the restaurant if you have to.

  • Our city's parks allow tents, but you have to call digger's hotline first to have the area marked, I guess so you don't put stakes into any underground wires.  So you'd need to plan ahead to have that done.

Check out the city/county website and see if it says anything about it.  Or call the parks' office to ask.
