  • Yes I am going a few days before the wedding!!!
  • I am nervous...my SIL just did it and said how painful it was.  She said take two advil an hour before.

  • yikes!! I have actually never done it so I am nervous too....definitely going to pop some advil first haha!
  • I got one last month, getting another one this month, and one right before the wedding.  My skin tends to get inflamed if I haven't had one in a while, so I wanted to start a few months early so it wouldn't hurt as bad the week before the wedding.

Luckily, I found a lady that can do it in 5 minutes flat.  It hurts, but at least it's over so fast

I got one a few years ago and wasn't impressed with the results. I guess you have to go a few times in order for your hair follicles to adjust. Not worth the pain and price to me. I got better results with a new men's razor :-)

  • I got my first one about 3 weeks ago and I DO NOT recommend doing it the day before the wedding. You should give yourself at least 2-3 days especially if it's your first. I didn't get any ingrowns but I did get quite a few red bumps that turned to white bumps (Sorry TMI!) and then went away after 2 days but I did not want FI anywhere near me for 2-3 days after it was done I was so tender.

They say the 1st is the worst because your hair is so thick. My hair is just starting to grow back but it's so thin I can tell the 2nd will be easier. It wasn't so bad except the 2 "inner" strips she did. YIKES! Tylenol did nothing for me, I would prefer to have 2 big glasses of wine before hand but then how would I drive to the salon?? : )
  • Thanks, I will change my appointment!

</div><div>HAHAHA agree 100% with all of this.  I had the wine afterwards.  Squeezing/pulling on a towel usually helps me to distract myself so I don't let out any screechs of pain

  • I get brazilians pretty frequently and I agree -- even with being semi-"used" to them, DO NOT DO IT THE DAY BEFORE. It'll still be "nice" a few days later. In fact, I had one done last Thursday and I'm still all good in the hood. hahahahaha

  • Rachael - Where's your appt?

I highlyyyyyyyyyyyy recommend Bliss. It's a bit more expensive but it's honestly nearly painless. I've had Brazilians everywhere on the planet and Bliss is by far the best. Something about the wax they use.

If you're not going to Bliss, make sure you go somewhere that uses hard wax.

  • would it be smart for me to get one now-ish to try it out and then again like 4 days before the wedding?? You guys got me nervie!

<div>Yes, that would be smart.  They say they like 3-4 weeks worth of hair growth before (unless your hair grows fast). So if you got one now, you'd have enough time to get one again before the wedding</div>

  • butterfly - Definitely. The more you do it, the easier it is to do it and the less painful also. I would absolutely get it done once before doing it for the first time for your wedding. They say anywhere between 2-4 weeks between waxings, but I've always waited like 3-4 because it won't grow THAT fast and if it doesn't grow enough, it'll be heard to pull those suckers out. (TMI?)

  • hahahaha not TMI! makes total sense! my hair grows SO FAST. I am not talking about my inappropriate hairs, I mean all my hair, so I would probably be on the shorter end of that time period. One time I had my legs waxed and my hair grew back literally about 4 days later. SUCKED. which is why I have always wondered if brazilians would even be worth it for me.

Sounds like maybe your hair wasn't long enough to rip out? Whenever I've had "bad" brazilians and/or waxes it's been because the hair wasn't long enough and they couldn't get the wax to "grab" it correctly (and instead just ended up breaking the hair shaft).

DEFINITELY GET HARD WAX PLEASE. You will thank me. It's by no means comfortable but it's a million bazillion times better than the regular strips.

  • So...TMI guestion bridetobe....does the hair grow back super fine or is the regrowth that I see probably just the hairs that broke off? I have some regrowth already but it's so thin it seems hard to believe!

I had the strips done but everyone I have heard from reccomend hard wax. Pros and cons to each I guess. The strips were super fast but painful. How long does the appointment take using the hard wax?
  • Chelsea:

    1. You're probably seeing the hairs that didn't "catch" as well. They say that as you wax more and more your hair gets finer, but I have been doing this for a few years and haven't noticed a difference. I don't go super regularly (regularly during the summer months  but definitely more sporadically during the winter), so maybe that's why? If you're seeing hairs after only a few days, I'd wager that they're the ones that just broke off.

    2. My last hard wax appt took less than 20 min -- maybe like 15 min. I thought the strips took longer, but I haven't had those done in a while so I can't exactly recall. I do have to say, when I went to Bliss, it definitely was a longer appointment, but it was relatively painless so I actually didn't even mind! Plus, it lasted for like 3 weeks.
