Cruise Excusion Question

I'm taking a 7 day cruise in a few days to the W. Caribbean (Cozumel, Cayman, Ocho Rios) and have never been on a cruise before.  I want to just go to the beach in Cozumel, snorkel in Cayman, and go to Dunns Waterfall in Ocho Rios.  I've heard that if I book excusions ahead of time privatley, I can get a much better deal on them.  Additionaly, if I book ahead of time, I'll have a spot reserved for myself, opposed to missing out if I wait too long.  I get cold very very easily (I have a health issue).  If its raining, or too cold, I don't want to go snorkeling or go to Dunns Waterfall.  Should I still book ahead of time or just wait to book an excursion for when I get there?

This will be dependent on the policy of the company you book with.  It doesn't hurt to call them and ask them "Can I cancel in the event of incliment weather without incurring a fee/lost deposit?"

I'm sure they'll let you know one way or another.  If it ends up they all charge fees, then it might be better to just sign up through the ship.  As a general rule thier tours aren't as amazing, but they are still alright.

  • Keep in mind, if you book outside of the cruiseline and the tour is late getting you back to the ship, the ship will not wait for you.  If you book through the cruiseline, they will wait if the tour runs late.  While it's more money to book through the cruiseline, we like peace of mind.  :D
  • Totally agree with Joan.  Book with the cruise line and you get extra legal protections too.
