Louisiana-New Orleans

Engagement Picture Location

I'm trying to think of somewhere to take engagment pictures. We don't live in the area so I'm only familiar with popular place like City Park and the French Quarter. We are getting married in the French Quarter so I don't want to do it there and we aren't really park people.

Anyone have any suggestions?

What about uptown, in front of a streetcar, or along the river? Maybe in Audubon Zoo?Talk to your photographer and explain what you're looking for. I'm sure they can give you some great ideas! Have fun!

Maybe Magazine street with all the shops? or the river walk might be neat. There is also the lakefront. I have seen engagement pics at the superdome before but not sure how you go about getting access to the dome. If i think of anything else, i will let you know. Good luck!

I just checked my photographer's blog and saw some neat engagement shots: http://www.twirlphotography.com/blog/?p=1240.

They were along Tchoupitoulas St. and on the St. Charles streetcar.

Well....what do you like?  Restaurants? Shopping? Crawfish boil?  Fancy hotel? Jazz club? Old buildings....?

I would say, do something that reflects your and your S/O's personalities - you'll end up being more comfortable at the photo shoot and having more fun!

A good photographer can make anything into a good picture, really - sitting at a bar with a neat chandelier, leaning against a wall with graffiti on it....

If you're asking for "typical New Orleans locations which aren't the Quarter or a park," I would I guess suggest Jackson Sqaure, Preservation Hall (tho those are in the Quarter), somewhere along the MS River, shops/bars on Magazine, in front of a beautiful house on St. Charles Street, in front of a warehouse on Tchopitoulas St, Rue de la Course coffee shop (used to be a bank), Jacques'imos restaurant near Riverbend....if you can be more specific, we might have more targeted suggestions.

....but, most importantly go with what you "like" Smile

Check out Long Vue - www.longuevue.com/.  It's a beautiful house!

We did ours at one of the plantation homes on River Road.  Some of them let you take photos at no charge, others will charge a fee.  We also did a few shots around the Quarter, on the streetcar, etc. because I wanted some that were more obviously New Orleans.  Also I agree with the post above about Longue Vue.  Great idea and not as far to drive as going to a plantation.   Also if you don't want to do the quarter, you could get some nice historic shots in the warehouse district as well and it is a lot less crowded.

Okay, this sounds stupid, but I grew up in the marsh so I actually see beauty in it, haha.  But what about like a boat tour-ish thing?  You can take pictures before and after, and if they have any stops, you can take pictures then and while in the boat.  Definitely need to check with the company who does tours, but it might be cute.

Or, book a trip on the Creole Queen (riverboat).  (You'll have to pay for the photographer for these things, but it'd be really cute, unique pictures.)  Take pictures on the Creole Queen, overlooking the river, etc.  I think they'd be really cute pictures--and almost no one else would ever have them.
