Registry questions

Hey ladies,

Fi is coming in 2 days and I am super excited. This is the longest (3 months) we have ever gone without seen each other. Anyways, we will start our registry while he is here and I am getting "ready." I think we will do two "stores" in the US and 1 in the UK. So...

Someone told me, "don't register at target... BBB is much better!"
Your thoughts?

Also, what are your thoughts on Crate and Barrel vs. Williams Sonoma vs. Pottery barn?

Finally, what was/is your favorite store where you registered and why?

TIA

We registered at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and Target.  Then for our honeymoon we did Travelersjoy.com

We registered at C&B, Macy's (bedding, towels, electrics), and BB&B.  My favorite store to register was C&B because it's simply my fav store = )

BB&B has a wider selection for kitchen-related items, but Target has more variety (friends of mine registered for a new digital camera).  So it depends on your needs.

C&B is more affordable than PB and WS, but if that's where you shop then certainly register there.  Personally, I shop at C&B way more than the other two stores and like the price points better.

This is the first time I'm trying to reply to a quote, so if it doesn't work, sorry!  My vote is C&B... less expensive than the others, but still great quality - I LOVE their stuff and that is where we will probably register.  We will also register at Macy's or something for bedding/bathroom type stuff.

So far we've registered at Macy's for our china, and will probably register for everything else at BBB. My guests are from all over the country, and BBB is everywhere, so it will be easier for them if they want to actually see things/make selections in the store.

From what I've heard from friends, BBB's return policy is much easier to deal with than Target's!
And they're the five best friends that anyone could have, the five best friends that anyone could have! Photobucket

I've heard bad things about Target b/c supposedly they can be difficult with returns and sometimes if you register too long before your wedding the stuff is unavailable because they change alot of their merchandise seasonally.

We registered at BBB and they were great! We received a few duplicates off our registry and the returns were hassle free!

I really like C&B too, but don't have any registry experience with them.

    Good Luck!

I think it depends on your guests and what stores are convenient for them.  For example, I LOVE crate and barrel, but there are none near most of my guests, so we didn't register there, because it would force people to buy online, which some people don't like to do.  Bed Bath and Beyond and Macys are both great, although in my experience, Bed Bath and Beyond has a lot of stuff in not a lot of space, making it difficult to find things.

We registered at Macy's and Williams Sonoma.  We figured that anything we don't get that we need/want, we can just buy ourselves after the wedding.

    Here is my 2 cents:

    1.  Macys - Pretty awesome.  1) they give you rewards back based on how much of your registry is filled.  Our rewards totalled almost $300 which we just recieved on a GC and can now use to buy Christmas presents :)  They also give you lots of discount coupons through out the time period you are registered for your own purchases.

    2. BBB - Amazingly flexible return policy.  Thats the main draw for me to BBB.. Literally the guy told us if something breaks a year later, you can bring it back to the store, that's how flexible they are.  So due to that we tried to get all kitchen stuff there, which has potential to break, and kept bedding and bath stuff to Macys.  After they told me this, I took back my espresso machine that I had bought there a year ago and had since stopped working - I was just going to trash it because it was out of warranty.. They easily took it back, gave me credit towards a new one, and I was on my way.  I was in awe that I store would do that a year after the purchase!

    3.  Target - We registered here just for a few things.  HEADACHE!  We had a mixer that someone bought for my shower which was back in the early summer.. didn't return it until after the wedding when we made all of our returns.  Since it was past their 90 day return policy, they gave us a little issue with it.  It was on my registry though - that made NO sense.. they know when our wedding is - why would they think we would be returning a wedding present BEFORE our wedding??   The manager did take care of it after a few minutes, but I was glad we didn't have more items from there.  Too much hassle.

    4.  We did not register at C&B or Williams Sonoma due to the fact that we had a lot of out of town guests who didn't have those stores near them.  If we had all local people, C&B would have been my preference due to the pricing.. I feel that Williams Sonoma (while awesome) is overpriced and don't want to feel like I am putting people out by offering them pricey choices.

Thank you ladies. What you said made a lot of sense. I will do Macys for sure.... Just need to find another store in the US. I will stay away from Target and maybe go with BBB since their return policies seems great... or CB since the quality is good and the prices are ok.

All my US guests (~40%) but 4 are in the Philly area so I can do CB (or even PB or WS if I wanted/needed to.)

The other 20% of our guests are in the UK, so I need to find a store there.

The rest are from everywhere else, so I am not even sure  they will buy gifts off the registry... or at all

I agree with oodsie about Williams Sonoma being over priced.  There are a lot of things that Macy's and Williams Sonoma both have, but are cheaper at Macy's (plus Macy's has a lot of sales).  There are also other things that are listed as a Williams Sonoma exclusive, which usually just refers to a specific size and not the actual item.  For example, Williams Sonoma lists an All Clad crock pot as an "exclusive", but Macy's has it 0.5 quarts bigger and it's still cheaper!

With that in mind, we DID register for things at Williams Sonoma because they weren't available other places.  Just be careful and do your homework when registering.  Yes, these are gifts, but you want to be smart about it too!

We registered at Pottery Barn, Williams & Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, and Sears. PB, W&S, C&B were all great, Sears was a disaster. We only picked Sears for a wine cooler and some electronics not available at the other stores.

I have a slight addiction to PB and W&S so I would pick those over C&B quite simply because C&B tends to be very modern in their designs, and my style is more classic. Also PB and W&S are interchangeable, so if you get a gift card for one store, you can use it at either store. I had returns to PB and used the merch card for a purchase at W&S.

That being said, you can't go wrong with any of the 3. Just stay far, far away from Sears. The only comment I have on Target is that I never can seem to find anything online or at the stores - the items always seem to be out of stock.

We registered at BB&B. We still have yet to decide where the second registry will be, although I'm leaning towrds Kohl's over Target.

We registered at bb&b and liberty travel for our honeymoon.

The other thing that I love about bb&b, is that if you sign up for the emails, they will email you when or if an item on your list goes on sale or is going to be discontinued. It saves some of the worry. Most stores have that, but bb&b really stays on top of it.

We registered at Crate and Barrel and now almost everything on our registry has been purchased.  It is affordable and most of my guests ordered from their website so it was quick and easy for them, even if there wasn't a store nearby.  I think most people purchase online now anyway!
