shoestring budget reception

Hi Ladies,

I'm trying to help a friend's daughter find a very affordable site for her reception. They are a young couple and don't have much to spend, but do want to have a lovely wedding within their means. Their ceremony will be at the Roger Williams Botanical Garden, however they are looking for a venue for their reception that will be in the $300-$400 range and allow them to bring in their own foods (cultural I beleive). Their wedding date is July 2, 2011 so she is coming down to the wire and has very little assistance from anyone in trying to plan this wedding so I'm doing what I can. I do believe that they would be open to using an outdoor site if a hall is not available. My husband is a dj and one of my daughters is a photographer so those needs have been met. Her aunt & I are helping with decorations, centerpieces, favors, etc and we are working on finding a great, affordable bakery for a special occasion cake (as opposed to a wedding cake).

They need the site to be in the Providence or Cranston area and because of out-of-state guests who are already committed to attending, they cannot change their date.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions and many good wishes to you all in your wedding planning! I remember the days well :-)

You're going to have to look into community places, like VFWs, town function halls, school gyms, etc. The vast majority of non-public places will not let you bring in your own food because of health/safety concerns and because they want you to use their vendors. You might also want to talk to the people on the RI local board. Good luck. I hope she finds what she needs.
