October 2012 Weddings

Where is your rehearsal dinner?

We can't decide what to do.  It's a small wedding party plus a few family members and I am trying to keep the cost down.  We're paying for everything ourselves.

I was curious to see what everyone else is doing. :)

  • I am no help with deciding, but I am interested to see what other people are doing as I am in same boat as you. :)

  • My rehearsal dinner is at the Church in the reception hall. I wanted it to be small but came to almost 40 people when I included WP their SO's and kids if they have them. Plus parents grandparents and the pastor and his wife. Like I swear to begin with I was thinking oh maybe 20 people...now all the SO's and kids may or may not come..but its improper not to at least invite them. FI and I got into a tiff a while back because I told him his cousin a GM was not ALLOWED to bring a date to the rehearsal. Dinner sure but not the actual rehearsal because that's private..everyone isn't supposed to be there for the run through..I don't think he has a gf..FI was just saying he'd tell J he was free to bring a date...um why J is going to be busy practicing and won't have time to entertain a date. J lives an hour away and some stranger doesn't need to sit in on our rehearsal...I had a TOTAL zilla moment on him!

  • we're having ours at a mexican restaurant..yum!!  My parents said.. well not everyone likes mexican.. so I told them well then they don't need to come!

  • Were having ours at our home. Were just going to have a small bbq with the WP and our parents. Since we are paying for everything we dont want to add extra costs we cant afford plus our rehearsal is on Thursday night so most people are just going to want to relax at home anyways instead of going out.

  • My FI's parents generously offered to host our rehearsal dinner, and we are having at a restaurant near the venue.  The restaurant has great food, and we are doing buffet-style to keep costs down.

  • Ours is actually a lunch because we have to do our rehearsal at the venue at 11am since the venue has an event the night before our wedding.  We're having it at a mexican restuarant down the street from our venue that overlooks Laguna Beach.  I'm pretty excited.  :)

  • Ours isn't terribly cheap since FI's family decided to be generous with the rehearsal dinner! We're going to run through and then have the dinner at Dave & Busters. They charge a fee for food per person, then a fee for the room, we added on dessert, and we have two bowling lanes after dinner, as well as a $10 game card for every guest. We'll have between 40-50 people there. I'm super excited for it!

  • FI's mom and dad have offered to host ours for us. FFIL is a member of an FOP lodge and they have a nice small banquet room. We're going to have it there and my mom, FI grandmothers, FI Mom and FI's step mom are all going to pitch in to make dinner. I'm so glad they picked this option since they can get the room for free and cooking food is SO much cheaper than going out to eat. Plus there is a bar right through the door with ridiculosly cheap prices (like $3 for a pitcher of beer) so FI and I are going to put aside $50-75 so that everyone can get a little tipsy :)

  • We are doing ours at a co workers Coffee Shop that he just opened. They also serve food food, they have soups, salads, sandwiches among other things. We decided to go with their pizza and salad buffet.  We wanted to keep it pretty causual.
  • We're torn between doing it at a friend's house (the friend who is officiating at our ceremony) and our favorite chinese restaurant. We're keeping it to just the wedding party and their immediate families since the wedding is only about 50 people.

For those who weren't invited to the rehearsal or dinner, we just said that we wanted parts of the weceremony dding to be a surprise to everyone. That seemed to satisfy everyone so far - and it's true. We added a few non-traditional things that will make it unique.
Just my two cents! Penny L G M
  • We are doing ours at a small Irsh pub near the venue. We picked five entrees that will be offered and we are also having appetizers. It's only 20 people, so it will be small and relaxed.

  • We're "going dutch for lunch" at a Mexican restaurant after the rehearsal @ noon. I'm sending out that state that. We just don't have it in our budget to pay for a rehearsal dinner but would still like to gather with everyone afterwards.

We are having it at the Strip Club....which is a steak restaurant!
  • Thanks guys.

Originally, I was thinking about a restaurant but I think it won't be in the price range we were hoping for.  I'd be content with just a party tray or pizza at the church after the rehearsal.  I don't think FI will want to do that though.  We gotta get moving on this...we're running out of time!!

It sounds like we are in the same boat as you. We are planning this wedding and pretty much paying for most of it ourselves, so we didn't want to go all out with the rehearsal dinner. FI and I just decided we would have a pizza get together here at our house. We will provide a few drinks, but otherwise its BYOB so everyone has what they enjoy.

  • We're doing ours directly at the church in the common room. We're having pizza, wings, potato wedges, etc and beer brought it. Technically we're not allowed to have beer but we get around it because my pastor lives directly beside the church and we can use her backyard to drink it.

  • We're having ours at a restaurant down the street from the ceremony/reception location, it's a little pricey but only 12 people are invited so I decided I could splurge.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!

  • We're doing ours at Buca di Beppo (a family style Italian restaurant). FI's family offered to pay for it, so we just told them how many people (about 25 with immediate family, wedding party, and their dates), and let them pick a place that was in their budget. I love BDB, so I'm really excited about it!

Since we're all spread across the country, we're going to be doing the bachelor/bachelorette parties immediately after the rehearsal dinner (but not too late!)

My parents are hosting ours at their home and having part of it catered since they will be at the rehearsal with us. We're going with an Italian theme for the food and desserts. There will be about 25 people with the wedding party and SO's.

  • We are having ours at one of our favorite restaurants(cajun) in the same city we are getting married in.  We plan on having 18-20 people, and the restaurant has a private banquet room that we can use.
