DIYing it-Will this look work with cameras?

I'm doing my own makeup, and plan on buying only a few things.  I have VERY fair skin(I don't tan at all) and freckles.  I also have blue eyes and brunette hair that can look reddish at times.

What I want is a nice light look.  Mostly I'm just going to smooth everything and add a little pink.  However, I want to use a look a friend did on me once that was awesome.  She used blue eye shadow and a blue eye liner to make my eyes look better.  I know black eye liner shows up red on the camera, but I'm not sure about blue.  Also, will the overall look do well, or should I try for a little more color.

I've already looked into makeup artists and the cheapest is still too much for me.

My advice would be to just invest in some products and start practicing at home to see how it looks.  You don't want to try a new look for the first time on your wedding day.  Also ask your photographer what he or she thinks will look best.
  • If you're not used to makeup, you may not know the "where did my makeup go" phenomenon -- you can put on what seems to be tons of makeup, and then look at a picture of yourself from that night, and say "wait, where did all my makeup go?!?"  The camera just doesn't pick up anything subtle on your face.  Depending on the color blue, you might have to be very, very close to the camera for it to appear at all.  I suggest playing around with it abnd then having someone take lots of pictures.

You don't have to look like a clown, but you do have to pile it on more than usual.
  • Considering how much time you have from now until the wedding, take that time to watch tutorials (youtube rocks!) and practice, practice, practice!! Buy mid-grade drugstore products now, more almay than NYC, and see how the colors work for you! I love almay's navy eyeliner (I'm pale, freckeled, blue-eyed and auburn-y brunette too).

But practice and take photos with flash to see how it comes out. :)

  • I am doing my own make up too, I'm going to Sephora for a consultation. I hear that all you need to do is make a $50 purchase and the consultation is free!
  • Good luck with your makeup!

I second the practice, practice, practice mentioned earlier.

I will tell you I am 100% pro navy eyeliner but am actually an anti-blue eyeshadow person.

Try a soft grey or a smokey bronze to really make your eyes pop.  The blue will take away from them a bit and is REALLY easy to mess up.  The grey gives a more dramatic 'evening' look and will read as just deep, gorgeousness on your eyes.  The smokey bronze color is pretty mistake-proof and will make your eyes look SUPER blue (work a tiny bit of a gold or copper in there too for an amazing effect).

  • Thanks guys!  I'm going to visit the drug store for some trial runs before I buy anything of quality and see how it goes!

<div>This is the best advice so far. </div><div>
</div><div>If you have blue eyes, the LAST color you should use for eye shadow would be blue. You need to bring out that eye color with a contrasting shadow color. Like mentioned above, blue eyes need a neutral color, think earth tones; bronze, browns (light and dark) and taupes. Gray is also a lovely and natural yet still neutral shade that will give a more dramatic look. Stay away from black anything. And don't wash out your natural blue eyes with dull blue eye shadow (whether light, soft or dark... blue will not give you any definition). </div><div>
</div><div>If you can afford to get a consultation at Sephora (which will put your money towards product for you to use) then go for it. Or, if you can ask a professional for just a consultation the cost will likely be a fraction of what a full service would be. Just ask for a makeup lesson! If I got called for something like this I'd do it for smaller fee than a full booking. Just ask around.</div><div>
</div><div>Since you are fair and have freckles, blue eyes and auburn hair... I'd say a natural look using sheer coverage foundation and a peachy/pink cheek color would be best. You want to enhance your natural beauty. Allow for your fair skin and freckles to glow. Keep your eyes nude with a taupe shadow and use a dark brown or bronze color in the crease. Use that same dark brown color to line your eyes (with a little angle brush) or select a dark brown pencil liner (this dark color will define your eyes). If you use liner underneath your eye, then soften that line with a q-tip. No hard lines around the eyes, reads too harsh... And finish with a light or sheer lip color (either lipstick or gloss) in a color that is closest to your natural lip color. Usually a mauve or neutral pink. This will give you an over all polished look. Very natural.</div><div>
</div><div>For photos your cheek and lip color can be pumped up a notch or two so it will read on camera. </div>
