Getting in Shape

My body is weight loss-resistant (vent)

I am so close! So close to my first fitting, so close to my wedding, so close(ish) to my goal!

And I lost no weight this week. Despite sticking to my WW points, working out (cardio and strength), and drinking lots of water. I think my body just gave up. Perhaps I am just destined to be 150 pounds forever. (In case you wondered- I am 5 feet tall)

I originally wanted to be at 125 by my first fitting, now I'll be lucky if I can hit 145. And this, ladies, is why you never buy your dress in a smaller size than you actually are! Best advice I ever got.

So, my dress fits, and I think I look really awesome, as I tend to think. But when we got our engagement pictures back last week, I looked like a whale. This makes me wonder if I have a trick mirror that makes me look thinner than I am, and makes me worry about my wedding pictures.

Just frustrated. Down to the final push push push before my fitting.

  • Congrats on the 45 lb loss so far!! That is absolutely a huge loss. Your body is most likely in a plateau stage. I just started out about 2 months ago, and have been losing very slowly, it is starting to speed up a tiny bit now which is great. I havent hit a plateau yet, so I really have no advice how to break it besides dont give up and maybe switch up your workouts a bit. I am a creature of habit and pretty much do the same workouts all the time.

  • What you have lost already is amazing! Have you switched up your exercise routine? The body does get use to your workout if you are doing the same things, generally every 6-8 you should change things up to challenge your body again. I know I have seen a lot of others recommend HIIT training or try taking a class to add something new in.

    Good luck!

You go girl! You will most likely drop some lbs just because of stress and being so busy before your wedding. Try mixing up your routine. Have you tried spinning at all? It can be a total body workout! Or check out groupon or buywithme for some deals they are offering - on a bootcamp...you want to change up the routine0 because your body does get used to it!

    Good luck!
  • Congrats on the weight loss! That's an amazing accomplishment. Remember, some weeks you won't lose because you've gained muscle, aunt flow is reaping havoc or you're retaining water. Next week you may see a huge drop. I lost .2 lbs last week and 2.4 this week (biggest drop yet)! I started at 150 and we've done the south beach diet, basically meat, veggies and fruit and I've loosely followed the P90 X workouts (I skip to run the campus stadium with co workers twice a week and take weekends off). I was shocked how much just cutting bread, pasta, potatoes and desert helped.  It's hard and I highly recommend reading the book before starting, but it's the only thing that has ever worked for me. Good luck!

All of the PP advice is really great. You do start to lose more towards the end as stress eats away at you...trust me. The only thing I'd add is to take a lesson from your engagement pics. Chances are, you don't really look like a whale. That's just our poor self esteem that makes us think this. I do the same.

Look at the pics and analyze the positions you were in when you looked best & emulate that. Remember not to do like the ones you felt you looked worse.
  • All good advice above, and I was actually going to say the same thing that rlavach already said about pictures.

Also, try talking to your photographer. I imagine that if you talked over the e-pic photos you liked and those you didn't (maybe even explain that you are in the middle of a weight loss process), the photographer will have some strategies he or she can use to make sure your pictures turn out really flattering.

Congrats on your awesome weight loss so far and good luck!

  • I felt the same way when we got our engagement photos back.  The one in my avatar is my favorite, I don't look as big, but there are others where I'm standing and look like an apple.  Part of the problem was low-self-esteem and the other was a bad choice in clothing -- my shirt was comfy but too poofy.

45lbs lost so far is an excellent milestone.  You're doing great, don't lose heart now!  Channel your frustration in a high-intensity workout.
