Cake Stand

I've been looking for a white 14" pedastal style cake stand, and I found one at Williams Sonoma but my mom is worried that the cake will fall over and feels more comfortable using a cake plateau (you know, those huge silver ones?) and I just don't like those, they don't fit the style of my wedding at all.

Has anyone used a 14" cake stand? How did it work out?

My cake is 12" round bottom tier, 9" square middle tier, and 6" round top tier. The only thing my cake baker mentioned is making sure the cake stand I got had a wide base, so it would be less likely to fall over.

We used glass blocks with lights in the center.  Maybe that may be an option for you.  I would be worried about the cake falling over too.  Have you asked your baker?

My cake will be set on a plexiglass stand.  My uncle had one cut at a local hardware store for my cousin's wedding and it was beautiful.

This is my cousin's cake setting in the platfom.  They used tulle & white lights to give the soft glow.

As long as the base isn't really skinny you should be fine (assuming no one bumps the table - but really any cake can go down if the table is bumped hard).

Double check with your baker what size board the cake will be on.  You don't want to buy a 14" stand and the cake board is 16" and hangs over an 1" on each side.

Also check the weight that the cake stand can handle and compare it with the weight of the cake. I saw an episode of Amazing Cake and the cake stand buckled under the weight of the 5 tier cake. But I think they look nice.
